Unfortunately here in W. Pa, PIAA requires all black shoes:mad:

I have posted this before: when soccer referees first faced this problem, years ago, many of us fixed it with liquid shoe polish.

I looked at those after seeing them on ump-attire. The reviews said that the traction was not so great. Definitely could see myself slipping on damp water with those.

In basketball, more and more amateur officials are wearing all sorts of shoes (as long as they are mostly/all black), choosing comfort and function over style.

Why shouldn't umpires do the same, even if we don't live in places like Arizona? I'm with MadMax on this.

How do the turf shoes handle on regular fields?

I have never had a problem wearing turf shoes on grass, even wet grass.

I have been wearing these Nike Air turf trainers for  five years and they are still holding up. No slipping issues on the baseball field, but two years ago I did go from a fall baseball game to a football game and forgot to pack my football shoes, and I slipped and busted big time on the sidelines wearing these.

Thanks, I'm just sick of scrubbing the mesh and having it be as dirty the next game.

That is my biggest concern when it comes to the New Balance shoes. I am going to order them and one pair of turf shoes to see which I like.

This is the NB turf shoe I wear for bases (and soccer), from the UA website: https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Base-Plate-Shoes/MU950LK2_New-Balance-MLB-All-Black-Low-Cut-Umpire-Base-Shoes The NB 3000v3 looks to be identical (or, at least, similar), especially the sole, but there does not appear to be an all-black version: http://www.newbalance.com/pd/turf-3000v3/T3000-V3.html?dwvar_T3000-V3_color=Red_with_White#color=Black_with_White

I appreciate that NB shoes come in EE and 4E widths.

Same here...not for baseball but for softball.  I need a good-looking all black turf shoe, almost with cleats.

In my experience, the newer turf fields are very slippery.  A "normal" turf shoe just doesn't seem to cut it.

I can't even find an all black regular cleat...

If you're bound to working on FieldTurf fields, and need (nearly) all-black shoes, consider soccer turf shoes. Most of them are going to be in wild colors, unfortunately, but there are a few that are black-on-black:
https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/adidas-mens-ace-tango-17-3-turf-soccer-cleats-17adimctng173blkbndr/17adimctng173blkbndr

Another option to consider... 3N2 Field Shoes:
https://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Base-Plate-Shoes/7335_3N2-Reaction-Field-Umpire-Referee-Shoes

While I cannot endorse their plate shoes with as much gusto as I used to have, they weren't bad shoes... they were exceptionally lightweight (which in the plate shoe becomes its big flaw), and both the plate shoe and field shoe possess a sole comprised of dozens of long nubs, ideal for turf.

Just an FYI, for many of us in w.pa who call multiple codes,  the all black restriction only seems to matter in Playoffs..............

If anybody else is interested, I found some decent looking all black shoes at Boombah.  Decent price also.  They actually have 2 or 3 options.

Frustrating thing is Google did not show any Boombah products! Google doesn't find everything OR there is something more biased at work...that's another topic.

I believe I followed a lead somewhere in this thread or another shoe thread on this site to find the Boombahs.

Just ordered the Men's Epic Turf. On Clearance. $45 plus shipping.  Hard to beat.
