Has anyone ever had any experience with any of +POS chest protectors? I was looking at their Cobra model but I never really hear any chatter about that company anymore. I thought that it was a dead brand. But anyway, I'd love some feedback. Thanks!

I inquired the same thing some months back when I was looking for a replacement for my Gold (I have chosen the Schutt XV w/MadMax mods). Posted here as well as just about every Facebook page I am a part of.

No one... AND I MEAN NO ONE... has even seen one. Let alone worn one!

The man comments I got back were "didn't they go out of business?", "it looks nice.", and "it was wondering the same thing. Let us know what you find."

The biggest conversation on here was regarding the horrible video the guy from +POS did showing the video.

Best of luck with your search. Hopefully you come up with better than I did.

Maybe I should order one, try it out, and, even if I send it back, give you guys an actual product review. Then, at least, they'll be some actual feedback available about it.

Where were you a couple months ago? Lol

That is up to you. Would love to get some actual feedback on what looks like a really solid CP. Unfortunately the reputation would probably stop this CP from getting the recognition it should if it is a good one.

You mean the reputation the company already has?

Well, I guess we have a couple years to wait for you to get it.

Kid that used to be on here named Baltimore Umpire had one. If you find some of his posts or Pm him

I knew I had seen something about someone that had one. No one currently active.

@codizzle and guys... I actually got a response from +POS, astonishingly within 24 hours after writing them. I'm inquiring about a new ZRO-G mask to add to my arsenal while my existing ZRO-G is off to Tony at MaskIt to tap out its first dent (*sniffle*) and get powdercoated a beeeyoooteeeful shade of sky blue metallic.

Your postings revisit the topic for me... I like the look of the Cobra. I very very much do. I posted at one time in response to @BT_Blue that I would have been willing to purchase one had I not gravitated towards the Schutt XV and invested so much of... well... me into it. Down here in Phoenix, I've cultivated a cadre of colleagues who take gear – and my insights on it – seriously. If I point out that a DavisShield or a "softee" Diamond vest is a worthless piece of crap inadequate back in Wisconsin, the guys look at me like I've grown two heads and I am Chicken Little. Down here, being around better, more intense baseball, the audience seems to be more receptive. So, if I can get a little more "cushion" capital, I'm thinking of getting a Cobra and giving it a complete, thorough, unbiased review. Then, either keeping it or passing it to one of my colleagues. I feel confident that, if I contact +POS ahead of time and tell them I'm purchasing, they'll fulfill the transaction.

I would have bought one if I could have found anyone that had even seen one. I probably would have bought one.

But I didnt. So I didn't. And settled on your recommendation on the Schutt.

I'm about to pull the trigger on ordering a +POS ZRO-G mask but am having reservations due to managing my financial resources to best effect. There's a a Magnesium mask still out there on the market I'd like to get and evaluate (potential resale to a fellow umpire for sure), and I did tell myself (and the forum here) I would get the New Balance 460v3's in low soon after their release.

Point is, I'm going to give +POS a shot again, and now am tentatively committing to ordering a Cobra CP if only to evaluate it, review it, and then outfit another umpire with it. One of the "kids" I work with caught the eye of several senior umpires here in Phoenix, and they are encouraging him to get into higher levels of ball. He's using my old Schutt AiR Flex 1 that I heavily modified. I like that CP, and love my XV, but I know the AiR Flex has no business being in a 18-and-over game.

The Cobra may just be the ticket. It has the slim, conforming shape that... well... several of us umpires favor, afforded that by using a multilayer foam laminate. Unlike the UnEqual – the other CP employing a multilayer laminate (in that case centered around Kevlar) – the Cobra keeps to an ABS carapace (outer shell). The technology (appears and reads as) is solid – the presentation is just woeful.

@codizzle, what's your timeframe as to if you would possibly want to obtain one? Maybe we can work out an arrangement that "we" get one, I evaluate and review it, and you take final possession of it?

I would be up for that. I was thinking about getting one in the next couple of weeks.

I tested a Cobra last year for Dan.

Damn it! Where we're you two months ago when I was asking about this?

What did you think of it?

The CP was fine.  Like most, it needed some time to be broken in.  Was middle of the pack in terms of profile and looked cool.  Shoulders could use a bit more movement but in all a very fine cp.  Much of an upgrade from the bulky zero g.  He did well with it.  Full disclosure, it wasn't better than my champion or power but if you took those two away from me i would wear it before i put on a wilson gold or platinum.

At one time I was all +POS......masks/cp/shin guards/plate shoes and unis.......

For upper level games I wore the +POS BB2000 chest protector that resembled samurai warrior armor. It was exceptional in protection but had major drawbacks in bulk and heat transfer. You looked like "ROBO-UMP" and that thing was a furnace to wear. I sold it and purchased a WV platinum and never looked back.

For sub varsity games I always wore a Honigs K1 with very good results but after many years service I was looking for a replacement. I purchased the ZeroG protector as I felt it gave me the flexibility of the K1 but with the added protection of external plates. I have been very happy with it. I have worn it in some very competitive higher level games with confidence.

My current gear in use includes 2 +POS zero G masks with doe skin pads. a BB181 plate brush and large 3/2 indicators....and up for replacement his year are my +POS brinkman shin guards...

Sorry I cant help you with any review of the Cobra model.

What did you feel was different and better between it and the Gold or Platinum?

Less bulky.  I could fit a slimmer shirt over it and give myself a much better look than I can with the Gold and Platinum all the while the same amount of protection.

Ah, the wonders of actually investigating, developing, and progressing your product. In this case, instead of using a sofa cushion foam that you haven't changed in twenty years, you actually develop a new five-layer foam sandwich, comprised of the latest advancements in materials and construction, and implemented because of what it can do in terms of protection, resiliency, absorption, and heat management. Not just because "this is what Douglas used, and we can't be bothered to do anything new."

Get off your corporate arses in Chicago, quit structuring and restructuring your company to be more attractive to yet another acquisition group, and actually do something with your products. You can start by fixing your website that lists your two prized "show pony" CPs as "Fastpitch Softball" Protective Gear units. This is baseball, dammit...

... which is probably a completely foreign concept to your Finnish parent company, who wants you to focus on tennis, badminton, and squash.
