Some Yogi-isms to make you smile:

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
You can observe a lot by just watching.
It ain't over till it's over
It's like déjà vu all over again.
No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded.
Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.
A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore.
Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours.
We made too many wrong mistakes.
Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.

What an enjoyable character on and off the field. Until I read his New York Times Obituary http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/24/sports/baseball/yogi-berra-dies-at-90-yankees-baseball-catcher.html?_r=0 I knew he was in WWII, but not at Normandy.

I love in the off season when MLB Network plays classic games and I have now seen quite a few of Berra's games. I love his spirit on the field. I love his unorthodox batting mechanics and more.

Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours.

Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra had some eye popping stats.  Let's take his 1950 season and put it side by side with Mike Trout's season last year:

Berra (1950): 3rd in MVP voting
Plate Appearances:  656
At-Bats:  597
Batting Average:  .322
Home Runs:  28
Strike Outs:  12

Trout (2014): Won MVP
Plate Appearances:  705
At-Bats:  602
Batting Average:  .287

Home Runs:  36
Strike Outs:  184

12 STRIKE OUTS!  Holy crap!

He never struck out more than 40 times in a season.

He was well known at a free swinger who could hit nearly any ball thrown to him

Yup...Yogi was known as one of the best "bad ball" hitters in the history of the game. To quote the man himself: "If I can hit it, it's a good pitch."

I am a young guy, and I hate the yankees with a passion.  It does not matter however, because Yogi Berra was and will always be bigger than the game.  His attitude and personality is what truly made the game "Americas game."  I regret not being able to watch him live because of my age, but I wish young players today could watch him instead of Bryce Harper and others who care about themselves more than their organization or the game.
