It why you need to stay in fair on this play (way too many umpires try to go foul.)

And if you need to move at the last to see F3 catch the ball, you need to go more fair( here is where 90* would work better).

Although it doesn't appear to be a violent collision, the sudden jolt of DiMuro's head when he landed on his dupa (at the 1:54 mark) is a classic cause of concussion.  They took him to the quiet room for evaluation.  Smart move...

that's important stuff there ............ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

remember, ...being concussed doesn't mean you were hit in the head ......being concussed is the movement of your brain inside your melon!

Whew, thank goodness I don't have to worry about that brain thing!!  BTW, boy was he moving very late in the play.

You're not always going to be set on plays at first. Sometimes you have to be moving.

With that said, I think he could have stayed fair and taken one step and a lean and saw all he needed to.

I'm thinking that the 'one step and lean' mechanic would have worked better. If pressured toward the line, move into foul ground. That to me, is the extent of having to be moving on the play.

it looked like he thought the pitcher was going to cover and was setting up to be in the "parting of the seas"

Right, but he wasn't pressured on this play.

He was set up for F1 to take the play and race to the bag, but when F1 tossed to F3, he couldn't see F3 catch the ball from where he was, and he couldn't hear the soft toss.

The spot for that is about 1 step in fair territory.  The runner will go foul, the pitcher will swing fair.  He got hit because he moved into the line of the runner.

And on the (potential) concussion topic, that's whiplash right there in classic form. Corey Koskie's career (Twins, Brewers) ended on one of those. Seemingly minor, but when you abruptly shake your brain, any numb...
