The solution is to make a hard tag on the lip. Make it so that the umpire can hear the tag...teeth in the dirt would be a nice touch.

 

:ranton: I'm glad that they let that play stand, even if there was some evidence of a tag whiff. This kind of a review is an abuse of the IR system. They should penalize for frivolous reviews. :rantoff:

I wonder how much "the ball was there just as Carpenter started his slide from 10 feet away" factored into this review decision.

I am glad they didn't overturn this. That has been an out for well over 100 years. Carpenter was just starting his slide at the start of the grass cutout and the ball was in the glove waiting on top of the base. I thought IR was supposed to fix "obvious misses", not garbage like this.

Make the darn tag AT THE BAG....for goodness sakes!! (sorry....old coaching habits die hard).
