First Legion game of the summer tonight and after contacting my partner he informed me that he owes me a plate so I'll be on the bases. But my nutty buddy came in the mail today and I want to try it out.  Oh well I guess I'll have to wait for either Saturday or Sunday.

 

For those of you that have one how do you wear it?  I got it off Amazon so it did not come with instructions.  I noticed that the jock does not have a "pocket" to hold the nutty buddy cup?  Is that how it's designed?  I also don't really like the jocks wit the straps on them.  Can I wear it with my normal compression jock?

Sometimes you guys need to read the post and try to be helpful rather than taking the first opportunity to ridicule.  I like good sarcasm like anyone else, but I'd prefer at least one remotely helpful answer to a legitimate question that I asked.

I admit it was funny and that if you take my one sentence out and say it out of context then yes walked into it.  I have no problem laughing at myself.  I just sometimes think that people on this board are too quick to ridicule when it's really not necessary.  And why not ridicule and then answer the legit question?  I would have been fine with that.  My frustration comes when people ridicule and then leave it at that.  Serves no useful purpose.  Just my $.02.  No hard feelings.

I bought mine, bare, and straight from Battle, and I use the Nike Combat Sliders with it. They have a pouch for it sewn right in. I've tried the UnderArmour and Easton -brand compression sliders (with pouches) and it doesn't fit right because those two companies sew their pouches to fit only their "protective appliance".

 

I have three pairs of Nike Combat Sliders for a reason.

 

And you have to admit, it looks like Bane (from Batman) is wearing one on his face.

Never have and probably never will.  Don't see a need.  I don't wear a cup while golfing either.  As a player the cup is necessary because you are trying to stop balls.  As an umpire I'm trying to get the hell out of their way.  I've never once been hit by a ball in a game anywhere on my body, let alone in a particular place.

Making fun of people, when all in good fun, is fine.  Anyone who knows me away from this board would vouch that I poke fun at myself all the time.  I'm not sensitive to jabs.  But jabs are in good fun.  Ridiculing someone that asks a question or making a statement like "I can't believe you are still asking questions like this", is not in good fun.  It's simply rude and unnecessary.  As well as being pretty cowardly on a message board.  And we are after all supposed to be on each others side and helping each other out.  So why create adversarial relationships?  Doesn't make much sense to me.

 

As for rolling with it until they find a new "victim", I prefer the approach that maybe having it pointed out to them will cause them to rethink their decisions and maybe stop having victims.  You will see many instances where people have jabbed at me on these boards and I even liked their posts.  There is a distinct difference between good natured jabbing and condescending verbal bullying.

 

Others have alluded to the posters that do this recently and in the past.  Most of them just don't speak up as much as I do.  They may say something like "now this is a good example of how to point someone's mistake out the right way".  I've also been private messaged by multiple people that have told me that don't even post anymore because of the verbal bullying.  Well when that is going on then the purpose of the board is being defeated.  And I don't want to see that.

 

I want to be clear that the stuff said on this thread did not offend me.  But when someone jabs at you, what is wrong with jabbing back?  You will never see me speak to another umpire on these boards in a way that would cause them to feel self-conscious about posting again.  So when I see it done, either to me or someone else, it's a cause I tend to take up.  

 

I'll step down off my soapbox now.
