I'm thinking about getting the Majestic therma base jacket and am not sure which color to get. Here in Iowa there really isn't a set dress code for high school in terms of color you have to wear, you just need to match your partner. I have seen umpires wear all different colors but the majority of the time people are wearing blue. However, I have done my fair share of games in black.

I really don't want to buy two coats and I like the look of the black one much better. So... Which is it? Black or blue?

Both. But black seems to be the current trend

Will you be doing any college? If so do they wear black? If you buy a black jacket and your partner has on blue what do you do? And vice versa? One thing I would advise is to not put any logos on your jacket(s). My son bought both blue and black Therma Base jackets and put our state hs logos on them (I told him not to but you know kids...lol). He then progressed to the collegiate level and came to me to borrow my jacket for his game because I had no logos on mine. I think if Iowa has no definitive color you should buy both but if you need to just get one, get black.

This is from the Iowa's officials manual.

Baseball: Grey pants; navy/light blue pullover-style shirt; navy blue/black umpire’s cap; black shoes

The problem is that the people who make these regulations have no idea about the different types of apparel available.

If I were you, I'd get both.

I dont agree with not putting patches on. Here in nj I believe we are required to have the patch and would have assumed that would be the case in college ( but i guess not everywhere). One college game should pay for both jackets and I think the patch adds some credibility. Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk

That's what double-sided fabric tape is for. Why limit apparel for just one association by sewing patches?

I was going to add that you could also do that Velcro thing. Do you just put them on with double side tape and they stay?

I use tape called Res-Q. You can get it at fabric stores. 3 strips on a round patch, and it's good for the game on plate or base. I remove the patch from the shirt/jacket after the game and then remove the tape from the patch. I'm only doing 1-2 games a week though. If I worked as many games in a HS season as Jax or Pete Petersen, I would just sacrifice 3 shirts (black, pro blue and cream) and have them sewn. I'd still tape them to my jackets though.

It's a joke. Please don't actually wear green.

A trend has to start somewhere... It started in Juneau, Alaska, then.

Whoa whoa whoa.  Green isn't a trend, it's an anomaly.  Let's squash that here and now.

Here in Illinois we are not required to patch our jackets, just our shirts which are not worn to like May....(had more snow today). I have college shirts and hs shirts and no patch shirts. That way whatever the situation I am ready. There is a heavy trend here towards embroidery instead of the actual patches. I like the patch look but either way nothing on my jacket but my number....

The blue, unfortunately. I like the black so much more!

Get the smitty version of the therma base jacket. I have the majestic and too but I like the smitty one better and they look the exact same when holding them side by side. The smitty one is a little cheaper in price but the quality is excellent. They offer it in a range of colors too. Just my two cents.

Dont worry. Juneau isnt a real place. Kind of like Wonderland or Walla Walla.

Speaking of patches @th3 what border color do the varsity guys use for the American flag on the back of navy/black? I would like to get them put on all my shirts and jackets in respect for my country but also all the fallen heroes that served in our military, police and fire branches. God Bless them all! True story I would not buy my house if it didn't have a flag pole! I'm not kidding my house passed on drive up to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As I understand how the border color works. If you served or currectly are serving, the border should be gold. All of us other folk, the border would be white.

Correct me of I am wrong everybody.
