Maybe the EJ forum? Long discussion... I seem to recall recommending MC on the runner to avoid further problems in the game. Clearly a gratuitous push and non baseball play by the runner. Also makes OBS moot. maven

I wasn't present for the original discussion. I've got MC here on the push, especially given the runner's glare at the fielder. EJ on the runner, substitute takes over as R2. Everything up to the push was incidental contact because of the play.

The real wonder is why an umpire, especially in a high school-level game, is going to kill the ball while it's rolling around in the outfield, and then proceed to NOT eject anyone.

screw it.. let's discuss it again :) Forgive my ignorance, but what's MC?

Malicious contact. Which I do not have in this situation. Unsportsman-like conduct ? Absolutely. You can eject for unsporting conduct, also.

Malicious Contact. Do you see the underlines under some of the phrases here? (MC, Fed, OBR)? If you hover your mouse for a second, a popup box will tell you what they mean.

I don't see anything malicious. Stupid, yes. If there had been no earlier problems I would have the coach remove him and handle it. Just let the coach know he isn't allowed to come back in the game.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree, umpstu. Either the young man is out of the game by ejection, or his coach removes him on his own, or he stays in the game. I do not feel it is my place to request that the coach remove a player.  Are you going to stop the game, walk over and ask the coach to bench his player ? What do you do if he tells you no ? Decide then to eject the player ? You could have done that already, and it's going to look awful funny if it shakes out that way.I can't see myself filling out an ejection report that contains the line " I asked Coach Smith to bench his player. Upon his refusal, I ejected said player". Either eject or let him play. YMMV...
