What do you guys wear? Patent or Genuine leather? I've normally worn a 1.75" patent belt but it doesn't fit into my polywools so now I'm thinking about a new belt and deciding whether to buy another patent leather or go genuine. Also, I'd obviously adjust to a 1.50" instead of 1.75".

what does your association say?.........do they have a standard?..........if not what belt is the standard and accepted item amongst your usual partner group? if you have no definite answers to these points then go with your best opinion......that being said, like Grayhawk, I have both.......

I have one of each so I can match my partner.  I prefer the genuine leather over the patent.

You match Belt Widths???? :shakehead:

Geez, you guys get obesessive about matching your partners...I'm lucky if my partners wear pants that have belt loops. (And if they do, they desperately need the belt intended.)

Hmm, I was talking about patent vs genuine, but now that you mention it...:)

Actually, I have no idea what width my belts are.  Probably 1.75".

Grayhawk please tell me you are joking. You seriously have both belts so you can match your partner? That is WAY over the top.

Actually, I bought the second one because I had a gift certificate and I liked the look of the genuine over the patent (which I already had).  But now that I have both, I just match if I'm working two man.  How the hell else are you supposed to get a "1" for appearance on your eval?  ;)

I've never seen an association that didn't have a specific dress code.  We must be crazy up here in the frozen northeast.

We have a specific dress code in our association. Most do. Ours says a black belt. Doesn't matter if it's patent or not. Guess we're more interested in things like getting calls right than if everyone's belts match. Guarantee no one on either side is paying attention to your belt.

Specific Dress code? We have a Dress Code. Charcoal pants, Black Shirt, Mostly Black Shoes, Black Hat, Black Belt. Now that being said, we don't dictate to our officials what they must wear in a game, as long as they match their partners. The Default is always what I just mentioned. So you are required to always bring the Default to every game. Because if you show up, and your partner was replaced(Family Emergency?) Then the default is what you have to wear on the field.

The only dress requirement the Juneau Softball/Baseball Umpire league has is "appropriate shoes" and that is so vague it's not really a requirement. As for the LL up here, as long as you show up and you're covered, nobody cares.

And you wear the Honig's Polywools? The 1.75" gives me trouble getting it through the belt loops. I just got my second set and I wanna make sure I have the entire LOOK down. Needless to say I wanna be sure to get my calls right.

I think I'd get kicked out of most associations. No association is going to tell me what type of belt I'm going to wear.

No kidding. That's just a little too overboard in my opinion. Way too much power. Way too much somebody having a big control issue. And, if you're talking about the Honig's polywool, 1.75" does fit through the belt loops. I wear patent leather to mach my leotards.

Dont fear. Looking the part will get you through 90% of the game. The rest however, you're SOL.

Well, this one time...

Just kidding. Honestly, younare further along in your umpire career then I am. I am just getting back into college ball and you have made the top division in amateur sports. So to you I say congrats.

I have both.

I wear the patent leather on the dish and genuine on the bases. Other than the patent leather being more rigid for ball bag support (heh heh.... ball bag) I have neither rhyme nor reason for varying my belt while on the bases.
