Culbreth and his crew caught the biggest break on earth when the Angels won.  Having the protest upheld and replaying those final innings would have way worse than fines and suspensions.

Funny how things turn out. After reading this thread this afternoon, I just did a 12U Travel ball playoff game and in the last inning with bases loaded the defensive team put in a new pitcher, he threw two balls to the batter and the coach came out to pull him. I didn't realize it until after a few warm up pitches and the opposing manager came to me and made me aware, I wen't to my BU who had the score card and lineups to confirm and long behold he did not pitch to a complete batter. I then went to the DC and stated 3.05© states his pitcher must pitch to a batter, he corrected the issue and the offensive team scored 3 to end the game.

Penthouse to the outhouse in 7 months.  Tough job.  I feel bad for them.  They're good umpires.  I think they likely lost focus in their discussion and it distracted their thinking.

That was where I took the quote from.

Don't worry, I have read several stories and seen several video's. Actually back in 1996 the US and Japan made an umpire agreement. In 1997 Mike DiMuro was sent to umpire. He was brought back after an incident and it appears the bad blowback (i.e. national attention) from that incident inspired Japan to look into their lack of respect for umpires (google DiMuro in Japan or the Washington Post for the old article.

Hiroshi Takahashi was working here in the US. Although he tried to be polite, he has mentioned that the umpires are not treated as favorably there in the Japanese pro league as they are in the US pro leagues.
