I am trying to drag in the Padre/Texas game. Click on the SD/Texas game at top. Go click on video/highligts to the left of boxscore. Click on Moreland balk.

 

Just like first. 3B several steps to the left of cutout only taking 2 steps to bag at 3rd. Pitcher just throws to him at regular position. Balk Called.

Who knows the new numbers given out to the new fill in umpires for this year?

Can we try to send an email to the commentators or something... these guys make our job so much harder when players, coaches, parents, and the guy driving past the field all take these interpretations as accurate and they don't even make sense.  How hard is it to say "the throw has to go directly to the base, not where the third baseman happens to be standing"?

Problem is, in the past you didn't have to throw to 3B, you could throw to F5 wherever he was. It was in writing in the MLBUM.

 

With the revised rule, apparently 3B is now treated the same as 1B so the throw has to go to 3B.

 

Give folks time to get used to it.

Yep same restrictions to third as first base this year. Call it if you see it they'll adjust faster

Clueless announcers are funny sometimes. Neither knows the rule, yet one is asking the other and he's answering the question like he knows what he's talking about...classic.

Fantastic case play.

 

It illustrates that it is not just the "3rd-to-1st" move that has been outlawed.   8.05(b) simply places the exact same restrictions on 3B that previously only existed at 1B.
