I know that there are quite a few umpire and forum acronyms that we use, however, do you ever read through a situation or post and think to yourself,...."jeeez this acronym stuff is getting a little crazy......."

Thoughts?

Do you think umpire speak goes too far sometimes with the acronyms?

Some posts can look like a foreign language! :D

I agree that sometimes there are to many TLAs

You could do these on the Happiness thread.  No need to open a new thread for this. :fuel:

I think you're reading the gist of this thread the wrong way .............

I agree Jeff.  Posting on here is not like sending a text message where you are trying to cram as many words into 160 characters.  End the acromania.

Not really. Any professional field will use jargon to more efficiently communicate between similarly trained colleagues. It's nothing compared to use in the military or, say, the airline industry, etc.

You think this is bad? Try working for a Fortune 100 company. Good lawd. This thread reminds me of a computer game I loved on the late 90's called Acrophobia. You played online in a chatroom. The game ran in rounds where a random acronym was generated and players had so long to create a meaning for the acronym. Once the time expired the players voted anonymously for their favorite. It was a great game.

Try being in the military. There's an acronym for EVERYTHING. Need a piece of equipment/gear? S.T.E.A.L. it

There are standard baseball acronyms, and some standard internet acronyms, those are no problems. What I have a problem with is when posters use texting shorthand, or worse, twitter shorthand. It is a forum, you have all the time in the world to form questions and responses, write in sentences. Although we aren't actual pros at this we are pretty dang knowledgeable and try to teach less experienced. As such, it should be handled like a pro board. Personally it drives me crazy when people can't get two, too,to and others correct. To me that is simply lazy, but that is the subject so I will shut up.

Welpe, I played that game A LOT! Loved it.

Mike, I agree. I also like the ones that type something and then interject with "Did I just say that?" Technically, yes, but we didn't see it until you posted it.
