From the Fed test (already submitted - just curious on opinions):

Nobody on.  F1 begins motion but after seeing B1 raise his arm to request time,  stops his motion:

a) asses a strike to the batter

b) asses a ball to the batter

c) warn both players

d) reset and start again with no penalty.

I answered d with no real conviction (I got one wrong and think this may have been it - they don't show you which ones are wrong until the test window closes).  I know that a strike can be awarded on the batter for stepping out, but B1 didn't.  Also, it doesn't say anything about the intent being to insight a balk.

We had a guy (not me) call this a balk a couple weeks ago. He got his butt chewed by our boards of directors.

Wouldn't it be nice if some umpires would quit making up rules and know the ones that are written in black and white?

If we don't know them how can we expect coaches and fans to know them?

Interesting comment coming from a guy who thinks that a ball that goes through an outfield fence is a home run.

And a misinterpretation of retouching a base after a dead ball in another thread

Being wrong in one case shouldn't make him wrong for life.

Agreed, but he was wrong twice on his first two posts or at least two early posts and first impressions matter ect.

So he can overcome it but he has some work to do

Michael,

I certainly wouldn't argue with that. However,....

What I found a bit "off putting" was a "new" poster with a flurry of posts yesterday that, at least of the ones I saw, were ALL designed to make HIM look "good" and someone else (e.g., his partner, coaches & fans, umpires who haven't mastered the rules) look "bad" - in combination with some truly remarkable misstatements.

To me, he came across as someone who has almost achieved Evans' "1st level of umpiring", and I thought a bit of self-reflection might do him some good. Apparently, he felt differently.

@Wmmleggitt - I'm still on your side. While my Fellows have solid ground to stand their opinions on, I'll stand with you, shoulder-to-shoulder, and advance into the barrage of rifle fire.

You will probably die in that barrage.
