I don't think tattoos are a problem in our league. Unless of course you're wearing black and your tattoo is navy blue. That looks terrible.

What is even worse is a Marine Corps tattoo in Navy Blue :tantrum:

I've got several tattoos but they are all cover by my uniform. One of my best friends who is very successful in the banking industry as well as being a very successful umpire here locally has a full sleeve and is working on designs for his other arm. I know at work most days he covers them but I don't think he is required to. On the field he rarely covers them but he has reached a point where he isn't trying to get into pro ball or anything like that and due to his job he doesn't have time to work college so that isn't really and issue either. I don't know any of these umpires personally but I have heard from a few friends that are in the minors who know other minor league guys with visible tattoos. I do know that MLB umpire Alan Porter has a pretty large collection of ink but I have yet to ever see it when he works a game. I don't know if his are normally visible and he covers them with makeup or if they just aren't visible when he is in uniform.

My question is why have visible tattoos in the first place? I have two, but neither is visible.

Thats funny bam..i dont have any but my question would be - why have one if its NOT visible??

Pete Jr has several tattoos on his arms, but he has a pair of flesh-colored sleeves to wear over them during HS and College games. He was selected in 2013 to work the state HS finals, and his college assigner has no problem with them, as long as he wears his sleeves.

Tattoos are for the person who got them, not everybody else. I know a lot of people who have them hidden away because they are special to them and that's all that matters to them.

Also, the Army is about to change the regulations to no tattoos visible in the summer PT uniform. No more calf or bicep ink allowed!

I had heard that, so what happens to the current guys?

If you're already in, you'll get grandfathered. But if you're trying to enlist, you'll have to get them removed.

Last week we had to send names up of people who had ink in unregulated places to be okay'd, but a gal with a neck tattoo was told she might have to remove it (even though she's already in) because it's exposed in every uniform.

I don't get tattoos but a good portion of my employees have many of them. I understand that some like them, my son has four, but face/neck tattoos are stupid. I understand that many tats are memorials or a celebration of something one enjoys. There is nothing that is that important to put it on your neck or face.

I have four large tattoos below my elbows, two on each arm, and it has never been an issue with my association. They are all appropriate, as two are military, and the other two my kids' footprints and names. I would really like to get into college ball in the near future, so we shall see if that becomes an issue. I was in e-mail contact with Jim Evans about five years ago, back when I was considering pro-school, and I asked if visible tattoos were a disqualifier. He told me absolutely not, that he knew of MiLB guys with visible ink, and that some had graduated from his school. He said that as long as they were appropriate they had no bearing on your ability to get a job and be promoted.

I got my tattoos on my arms because I wanted to show them off. They're all things that mean a lot to me, and they were expensive and hurt to get, so why hide them? I do, however, agree that face and neck tattoos are a bit too much, even for me.

Words to live by - "You WILL regret your tattoos"

Perhaps someday, but it hasn't occured yet. I can't ever imagine that it will either.

I wouldn't say you will live to regret all tattoos but careful consideration needs to be given to content and location. For example, I have a buddy that has Ozzy on the knuckles of both hands. He is in a metal band and is appropriate when he is playing. However, at 45 he regrets them when he is on his firefighter job, they look silly.

Did this line serve a particular purpose, or was it merely intended to flame the poster to whom you responded ?

Exactly what I was thinking.

Thank you.

But that doesn't mean you're not an a-hole.
