Annual... Game Fees Question... Let's see who got a raise or not

OK... I call in TX (DFW) and with TASO and UIL fighting (lawsuit)... UIL has kept the same fees as last year... Who knows where that is going....

Varsity Gm Fee $45 + % of gate (usually $5 or $10) + Mileage/rider fee(one guy gets miles, the other get $10 riders fee. we combine mileage and fee then split it) = Avg from last year $72/game

Sub-Varsity same as above but game fee is $45 usually no gate

I am in Texas as well, but I have always gotten the same pay of JV and Varsity games. The new UIL 1204 does have a difference for the subvaristy stuff, but since it is not in effect we are still on the old 1204. I am ready for the new pay scale to go into effect. i think it will mean more money since a lot of our schools do not take or pay a gate in Baseball.

Also in Texas same for JV as for Varsity plus in the panhandle it actually pays better to work the small town schools we have one that is a 300 mile round trip so the check from it is 200 bucks

Our game fees are locked in per our contract with the schools. I think we get a raise either next year or the year after.

As for the TX and their situation. I think that is severly unfair. You should get a fixed fee plus mileage (if that's how you do it there), but have nothing from the gate. So you get a game between to low level schools where not even all the mommies and daddys are there you get paid less than a game with a larger draw... How can you control the draw? How does this effect your performance? Baseball is not a revenue generating sport until you get to the pro levels and even then it varies greatly by market.

I'm in FL. I've never seen a % of the gate in our calcuations.

We don't get enough, but I think it is:

JV: $36

V: $45

plus each umpire gets $10 mileage/day .

Heck we get $46.50 for 13U and up for Travel Ball and $41.50 for 12U.

Adult ball can be $50 to $72 depending on the league.

Little League $20 to $30 depending on Level and League.

PONY is usually $35 a game.

Then again our cost of living is higher here than a lot of places.

That's great for HS. Up here in the other State of California I believe we get $58 for Varsity. $48 for JV, and $46 for Frosh. All two man. No mileage.That was last year.

MSBL is usally $70 or $80. Two man

Pony is $45 to $55. Two man.

One group I work with is $60 no matter what level. LL to American Legion for two man 7 inning.

In Louisiana we split $110 for varsity ($65 plate, $55 bases + travel). However, they are supposed to be voting Friday on whether or not to give us a pay raise, effective immediately! From what I've heard, if the vote doesn't pass they're talking about a statewide strike by high school umpires. Anyone else have anything like this or ever had anything like this before?

Right now I'm not going to moderate the thread, but I'm going to try to exclude it from guests and search engines.

Its not a bad thing to be paranoid. My wifes a Dr. and she's paid to be paranoid. This was one of the first things I thought of as well when this topic popped up. The internet isn't written in pencil but ink. So once its out there it's very hard to take back. Glad your watching out for us Warren.

I know this has been discussed many times, in many places, but I have never understood paying a differential between bases and plate. While plates can be challenging, correctly done bases are every bit as tough or tougher. Most places that do it, the policy is set by people that have no clue how to umpire. I cringe everytime I get a call from a youth league that ask me to do a plate, saying they will get somebody to do the bases because anybody can do bases. If the policy is set by umpires, that is close to criminal.

I absolutely agree with MST. Both positions are critical don't short change the base guy. The only advantage I see is it might be a motivator for those guys who always have some sort of excuse why they can't do the plate. Grrrr

I couldn't agree more. With runners on, the field umpire, in my opinion, has many more things to focus on! Calling the bases is very difficult, especially in a 2-man. I was just saying what our pay is, and I think it is a very good motivator to get those guys who just want to stand out there, behind the plate. I wouldn't know any other way!

If given a choice, I would rather work the plate. To me, it is more fun. Bases and plate pay the same by the way.

It is simple, pay them the same and assign them. Most of my baseball is assigned to where we work. The ones that aren't we trade back and forth. If that isn't applicable then we discuss who has worked what recently. In other words we try to keep it even if possible.

We get $55 for a varsity game (Or any 7-inning game for that matter), and $45 for any game under 7 innings. The schools pay one driver round trip at 40 cents/mile or both umpires mileage one way each. We add on $15 to any game fee where there is a single game played, which is usually only at the smaller high schools with only a varsity team.
