Again, I think trout makes a very good point, while my personal convictions are my own, I have no right to impose those convictions on other people. While I personally disagree with wearing a flag pattern I should never tell anyone that they can't do that. If you feel wearing the shirt is patriotic, I don't suppose I can much tell you that you are wrong lol. I don't agree with it but having said that I REALLY dislike the navy blue shirts. I have no idea why, perhaps because it is the one color everyone has (and is the "prefered" color in one of the associations I work in) and the non conformist in me just has to rebel

I agree. Before the ridiculous change I mentioned above I really enjoyed wearing different colors than the standard navy and powder.

Black is the new navy. (The SOP of shirts)

Navy is the new red. (Odd, but a change of pace)

Red is now, somehow, cool, again.

Light (polo, powder, bad 70's tuxedo) blue is still awful, no matter what collar color you match it with. (Elbeco's excluded. They're still cool.)

Black, Powder Blue w/black collar, creme. I have red and have Always liked it. It is different I remember when we started wearing them around 1998. I REFUSE to wear navy. So I always bring 2 of every other color

Aside from the Flag Code discussions, the American flag shirt just looks AWFUL as an umpire shirt. Our regular shirts are bad enough, but those things are a fashion nightmare. They look like the polos that Bass Pro puts on sale around the holidays in the summer that all of the old men buy. (Like my father in-law)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think disobeying the Flag Code is illegal, is it? It's more of a guideline and suggestion than law from what I know.

Give of yourself, not your fashion. Donate blood. Go to an old folks home and listen. Those old guys have some great stories. These thing aren't symbolic, they're real.

Same here I volunteer at a local VA hospital. My point was as umpires this is a great way to do it. When we volunteer personally its great. But IMO when we do it on the field we represent an entire proffesion supporting our troops past and present. Nothing against those who have different opions than mine, but I feel this is a good way to show our appreciation as umpires rather than individuals.

I do help Feed the Vets, volunteer my time to help those in need, Donate Blood. And I do it wearing my Flag Shirt!

I'm not against supporting any veterans, I just think the shirt looks awful on a baseball field.

And I don't think wearing an American flag shirt is sacrificing much of anything. Not trying to argue just to argue, but that's a bit dramatic.

The American Flag shirt is reserved for 3 day weekend holidays... (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day).

You'd work years here before you found someone with a maroon umpire shirt. Oh, I forgot -- I do have a creme shirt. I dig it out for Little League tournament season because some of my partners have them.

I have navy for HS. I also have a black AND navy plate coat. And about 6 different jackets. And short and long sleeved shirts.

I'm just not wearing red. Frankly, with the exception of HS ball and navy I wear no navy-based color.
