Hey guys,

Hope everyone is doing well and appreciate all the good mentions. Apologize for not being around as much this season here, but I do always catch up on reading. You guys are getting so educated these days, I'm finding fewer opportunities to add anything of value. Keep up the good work.

Wanted to throw some info your way straight from the horse's mouth on the new Majestic items. At first, we were hesitant about mentioning we would have anything available as Majestic hasn't had their full line of umpiring apparel for several years now. But now that we were able to book these items recently I feel more comfortable in sharing some details.

I do agree with most of you, the black is going to be the favored choice out of the two colors in shirts. Majestic is telling us a limited number of those shirts are coming in October. The fabric is the big draw on the shirts. The MLB guys I've talked to love the fabric and more so than the old Majestics.

I'm more excited about the jackets, because I think you will be, too. And not just the lightweight convertible ones (in black and in navy) but more so, for those of you in colder climates, is the heavyweight Therma Base jackets (black with powder and navy with red). I haven't seen a warmer umpire jacket out there and can't wait to share the complete features of those at the appropriate time.

Convertibles are due in early September but don't have a date yet on the Therma Base. Still waiting on pics and making some pricing decisions before we make available, but some of you resourceful guys may have some links out there to some of the MLB guys wearing. If you don't see anything, the Therma Base is the same construction as what you'll see the MLB players wear.

I think there is actually two versions of the "jacket" that the guys have access to

There is one 1/4 zip pullover that has a light lining and then there is a full zip almost winter coat like one that you will see during the cold weather games. Both have the same polo blue and white stripes on the shoulders.

I imagine the one called "Therma Base" would be the full zip, heavily lined version.

I think the college version of the convertible "smock" that Honigs and Official's Choice sell looks a lot better than the Majestic version that MLB uses. They have the horizontal pinstripe around the chest and the two white stripes from the armpit to the waist.

This should be intresting to see how well these are adopted. Most associations that use the black jacket use the version with b/w stripes not the polo blue. If these images are correct,(which I'm sure they are) the navy blue and red stripes don't match what's currently out in the marketplace either. Still looks like a pretty bullet proof jacket.

I really wish my black jacket with the white stripes was this therma base kind of stuff. It seems that every time I wear it in the spring I have to layer underneath it a bunch because it's so thin. I don't know why the regular suppliers don't make one with some insulation in it.

My thoughts exactly. If they were thick white stripes, I'd buy the jacket, no doubt. Nobody has a jacket with the blue inserts like that.

I would almost be tempted to take my old jacket, remove the stripes, and have my local seamstress sew them on the Majestic jacket!

When you work a two-man, and the plate guy wears a black shirt, you can wear the black with the polo stripe. Three-man is normally serious stuff, so most of those guys should have it. I can't wait.

FYI:

I have a new ThermaBase jacket made by Majestic (the one that is pictured above).

The width of the polo blue stripe is exactly the same width as my +POS microfiber jacket (R/W stripes) and it's also the same width as my Honig's microfiber jacket (polo blue / white stripes).

My assocation here uses both the black jacket with the polo blue stripe AND the blue jacket with the R/W stripes, so there's no issues there.

The other jacket I have is a B/W stripe microfiber (also Honig's) and the B/W stripes are all of equal width, meaning that the center stripe is narrower than on the the red or polo blue stripes - but who cares, it's a different jacket that won't be worn unless others in the crew are wearing it. In my area, the B/W jacket is for college games.

Here, we wear black in high school about 75 percent of the time now. So the black jacket is the one you need.

That is, if the weather is ever cold enough to wear a friggin' jacket. I work baseball 12 months a year. Last year, I wore a jacket a grand total of five times--all in January and February (college intrasquad games). I never wear one behind the plate, and I only wore one for five of my base games, including one where I forgot my belt, and had to go with the jacket over my beltline. So, four times in over 150 games was a jacket even necessary.

And in the entire year so far, there was actual rain falling on the ground during one game and I had a grand total of three rainouts.

But I am still going to get that beautiful new Majestic, because I have an illness.

Sure it's not a fever?

p.s. I've had one of those Majestics in my hands, and they're nice. I'll be under my Christmas tree, I can feel it!

LOL

It is a nice jacket, for sure. Definitely designed for the chilly days, making that one extra layer unnecessary. And goodbye, microfiber!

BaseballSavings.com had the Therma base jackets on sale, big-time, (they must be doing a new version this year) ...but ..they had a black and gray which would have been super nice, and function as an ump jacket, but ...MOST sizes were gone! ;)

Is that the one with the panels on the sides? Nice looking, yes, but who else would have one so you'd match?

True. I was going to send the link to the guy I work with the most (small org) so he could get one too if he wanted....it's multifunctional. Wouldn't look like an ump jacket, but if you both walked out there with one, it would work ...if that makse sense...

I like the Honig's convertible jackets more anyway, but the Majestic ones with no logos or anything else on them look terrible. Looks like the current Honig's ones were the style worn by the MLB guys before the current Majestic ones arrived, just without the zip off sleeves.
