I originally bought the 12" but after wearing it for several games I felt I should have gone for the 15". If I had seen some pictures prior to ordering of the differences it may have helped me make the right decision to start with so I figured I'd help out someone else who may be making that decision.

The 12" will be going up on eBay next week but if someone here would like to make an offer I'd be happy to give a good deal on it.

For reference I'm 6', 220lbs. I do have a long torso as my inseam is only 31.

I'm sure my Platinum looks small on me, when I'm standing up. But when I'm set in my normal plate stance, my ribs are covered.

Not to get too personal, but if you'd give us your size, we can make judgment calls on whether the 12 or 15 would be advantages to the rest of us.

I might be interested in your 12"... I PMed you to try and get an idea of what you are looking for in terms of price. Hopefully we can come together on this.

Everybody is built differently, and has their own comfort level the need to work at. If extra protection below the ribs is what you need for piece of mind, that's cool. Me, I just need that last rib covered by a hard plate, or my arm crossing in front of me (which is what I do).

It would be good to know if the OP is 5'7" or 6'8", just for reference.

To me, it looks like the 15" is going to hit his belt buckle when he's down in a box stance. Again, that's fine, but not for me.

I updated the original post with my size info. My bottom ribs were not completely covered, but maybe they are when in a crouch. I'm not sure why there is so much concern of having 'too long' of a chest protector. I know people talk about weight of the CP but 3 extra inches isn't really adding much to the equation and I don't feel like I have less mobility with the 15" on. The bottom of the 15" does not touch my buckle when I'm in my crouch either. What am I missing about this? Is it a 'tough guy' thing? Sorry for the noob question.

You will get hot in a CP that is too long and the extra length can get in the way depending on your stance. Not a tough guy thing. My Douglas does not cover my bottom rib when I am standing straight up, but I can't ever see being in that position and being hit. In my stance I feel I am fully covered. If I look in the mirror standing up wearing the CP it looks a lot like your 12" picture.

I ordered the 15" all star and I'm 6' 160 with long legs, shorter torso. I think I will be well protected and I will take any additional heat over hard-shell protection any day.

You'll be fine ...the All-Star sits much higher than other CPs ....

I think you get hot in any CP and the 3 extra inches isn't going to be noticeable, at least to me. And if I cover the soft part of my stomach a little bit with hard shell I'm willing to take the extra protection.

That's fine, everyone's preference and feeling of being protected is different. Enjoy your new CP, good luck selling the short one.

he definetely needs 15 inch. im 6-1 and have smaller inseam barely 30inches..i prefer 16 inch chest protector..like i said those wilson hard shells gold and platninum are made for umpires 5-10 and under...great chest protectors but anybody near 6 foot the ribs are exposed ...my friend is 5-11 and has 32 inseam and he bought the platninum and sold it two weeks later after taking a shot in the ribs
