That florida pitcher that came in on the bottom of the 6th has a double leg kick and appears to come set twice. BU1 has balked him once already. Seen thicss kid once before. Anyone else seen this kids antics?

Wow! That's a balk clinic.

The double-set's a balk.

The weird kick that he does when he's coming set is probably going to get called a lot because it is one of those it-has-to-be-a-balk kind of balks. But I'd leave it alone (I don't call balks that seem like they must be balks).

He also appears to have crossed over (but I'm not dead sure).

But he definitely balked by going to the plate before he threw the ball away.

I would want to see it from the other side but I agree the leg is nothing, the hands appear to be a double set. His step to first may be to far toward home but it isn't a good camera angle for that. It is funny that with all his shinanigans he still threw the ball away.

My question is why didn't they call the double set every time last night? Is wiggling your glove the same as not being a discernible stop?

I'll try to isolate that inning and post it in a few days.

I wondered the same thing. I couldn't see what had changed from the one they called to the ones they allowed.

I was also wondering who else was watching this.

That kid could have been balked on every pitch. The first base umpire got him once. They replayed the balk call in slow motion, and then the very next pitch, also in slow mo, and I Tivo'd it, ran it back about a dozen times, and I couldnt see a difference between either pitch.

In a 2 man system, it's going to be tough to tell if his foot crossed the plane of the rubber. A little bit easier to determine if he is stepping more to home than 1st but still not a slam dunk.

That's innovative. But if he does that all the time, no one's gonna be fooled. But if he only did that on certain occasions, I could see where that could fool a runner...and an umpire.

I showed this at a clinic last weekend. First thing that was said was "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Second was "winder if he does that with runners on?" Third was "when they get R2, they should take off for third the minute he starts that kick."
