Just when you think it cant get worse..........I bet in the pre-game, he regaled the crew with his "I used to coach/play LL/HS/LEGION...blah blah, know baseball in and out.....umpired a bit here and there....."

Just had a coach run out the all time loser statement on my partner.....Batter swings and the ball hits off his hands.....dead ball strike......coach obviously asks my partner...

he says.........

wait for it.....

yes, its coming....

hey blue, arent the hands part of the bat...........???

I heard that in a major league game the other night. A guy bunted at it and it his hands and the guy calling the game said it. I just laughed.

In that case, why would the manager say that? Either way, wouldn't it have been a foul ball? So a strike either way? I guess if he hit to the field it wouldn;t have been a foule ball. Whatever, silly rats

Had a dropped third strike a few weeks ago. Bases load. 1 out. Catcher drops third strike. BR takes off running anyway. He was called out given the fact the sacks were juiced. No other runners moved. Defensive team coaches are sreaming " touch home touch home"

I just kinda sat there and scratched my head..

I punched a kid out looking on a pitch on the corner and it popped out of the mitt ( I know, probably shouldn't have called a strike on that....timing ) and the batter takes off and F2 throws it into right field and a run scored. As the next batter is stepping up to the plate I hear the Defensive Coach say, " Come on, No way that's a strike." :notworthy:

Why wouldn't you call a pitch on the corner a strike? If the pitcher can hit the corners he is earning a strike.

That's funny about the DC's comment - amazing what coaches will say/do to try and reverse an execution mistake.

It was middle school ball so I didn't really feel bad about it but some guys might say not to call the boarderline strike if the catcher doesn't squeeze it. But a strike is a strike.

Had a HS game on Sunday were a DC approached me in between innings to let me know that a screaming grounder that started a rally down the first baseline "Clearly, went "OVER!" the bag... not inside of it." And would not even hang out to chat about it with me, as he humphed off shaking his head.

Had the same thing last year on a play at third. Ball went right over the bag. She, DC, said(yes it was a she manager. They were one of the worst teams ever but their uniforms matched and they had the best after games snacks!)"No way, no way. That ball went over the bag" AS she ran out on the field. I said "It did go over the bag. That is why it is fair" She stopped and just walked right off.

I got one last night. Coach said between innings "Can my kid step out of the box between pitches?" I didn't even understand the question. I had to have him explain it to me, and yes he ment can his kid just step out. "Yes coach" It never ends.

Me: "Coach, we've got lightning in the area. We'll suspend the game for 30 minutes, and then see what happens"

Coach: "OK: we'll just take infield until we're ready to finish it"

(cue the crickets...)
