  1. We had this a couple of weeks ago. What the others is saying is what what the final answer was
  2. There was no problem with a Rat, I was preventing one from starting.
  3. I think I may have got him when he came out the first time. I'm not letting him tell me I need to wake up. Maybe I'm a hardass but I don't want to hear it. I don't tell you how to be a rat don't tell me how to be an ump.
  4. I understand what you are saying but I have more of an issue with the 7 per inning then the clock.
  5. Had a game last week. In this league during fall ball each team is allowed 7 runs per inning and 1:30 time limit. I'm PU. Two BU's. Not a special game or anything, just how it worked out. Good game nothing crazy. Coaches were good, but you could tell both teams wanted to win. So we are in the bottom of the fifth, home team is up 2 with about 10 minutes left. The away catcher says "We need to be quick, not a lot of time left." Of course they get the first two outs in no time, but then he walks bases loaded. I look at my watch and see there is about two minutes left. He goes full on the batter and then time is up, so I call game. As we are having them sign the card the 3rd Base up says "You should have let him finish the AB." I said "Time was up." He goes bat crap nuts! Starts screaming right on the field. I just walk off to change. He follows me screaming about he is the comish of the league and what he says goes,(no it doesn't and no he isn't). I said there are two reasons I called the game. 1. There was no way the vistors could come back, therefore the game was over. To keep playing made no difference. 2. I thought I was preventing an issue because if the next pitch was a strike and then I called game the visiting team coach would go nuts asking why I let them finish an AB that didn't matter. I then walked away and did my next game. The next day I get an email from my boss telling me I should let the batter finish. I told her what really happened and she said that it made sense what I did but going forward I should let him finish. I left sorta pissed that this guy went behind my back and told my boss but I let it go because that night we worked together that night. He had plate the first game. Visting team was up four or five or six and batting as time expired. If they got to 8 up, the game is over. So runner on third and runner on first. Batter hit a shot into the gap. Runner On third scores runner on first is going to score all the sudden I hear "Game, Line em up!" I turn around and see the same ump who told me not to end a play in the middle of an AB end a game in the middle of a play. But guess what? The home team says "Wait, they are only up 7. We can still tie." At this point you can look on the umps face and see how he just see he screwed up. At this point the visting team manger, who also was the third base coach, comes running in screaming "My runner on third would have scored but you stopped the game!" They argue for a minute but what can we do? So we finish the inning which takes four more batters and 10 minutes. We are walking off the field he won't make eye contact with me and I take pleasure knowing that karma is a bitch.
  6. I honestly do it because I like seeing the good teams that play in the spring and in summer Tourney's. I think it is cool that I can be on the field with some of the top players in the region. I really just like to see the game played by good players. My mistake is I do really good teams then when that is over I go and to this league. The money I make, or the lack of money I make, doing these leagues is not worht my time.
  7. You are right. Had the samething last night. Just smiled and said "Good Game coach." He looked at me and said "yeah, I guess you didn't mean to miss that call" put his hand out and I shaked it and he left with the words "Overall you guys were good" So I didn't bite and I walked away without being mad, so it worked out.
  8. I do this really bad rec league. In the fall it is usually better as a few legion and other good kids come to this league from their summer teams, but over 75% of the players will never be any good enough to make a high school team. In this league after the game the Umps must meet on the mound and have the coaches sign the score card which we send in. Of Course what happens after every game? The losing coach has comment about how much we sucked. Every game So at the end of the game, the coach says, "You guys missed five or six calls tonight" I stopped him before he could finish. I said coach it is bush league for you to come out here after a game you lost and tell us we missed five or six calls. It sets an awful example for you kids. It is poor sportsmenship and as an adult man I'm not going to let you think you can make comments like towards me or my partner. He says "I have ever right to question calls!" I said actually you don't(the league rule book is a mess with all kinds of crazy things trying to control the coaches, and one of them is after a game no comments on plays are supposed to brought up.) but if you wanted to, come talk to us in an adult way. He said ok well I have a question on that play at first. The call was that I called the firstbasemen off the bag. I said ok. He said he put his foot back on the bag after falling off before the runner touched first. I said, first, no he didn't and it was even close. Second you are in the first base dugout and the play was on the backside of the bag, I'm five feet away from it, you really think your angle is better then mine? He says "No(get this next comment) but I had parents of my team sitting up the first baseline and they said he was back on the bag." I said are you kidding me? I have done alot of games over the years and the next time I see a parent tell his son he was out on a close play or that a call went againest his team was right it will be the first time. He says "My parents are good people who don't lie." I just looked at my partner and walked away. I have done games for some of the best teams in my area. I have done games for many draft picks, many D1 players, many kids now getting paid to play the game. I have done games for multply winners of the All Metro player of the year here in St. Louis(that is a big deal around here). I have even down a few games that one of the coaches was a retired big wig with the Yankees. Never once, I mean not once, has any coach or player in these better leagues has ever got mad or yelled at me about a bang bang play. This league is a joke. Sorry thanks for the Rant.
  9. Almost had that tonight. Kid yelled it was right here, then dropped his bat head. My eyes had to be the size of dinner plates. He stopped and walked away. I said "Oh Catch, I was thinking I was going to get my first guy drawing a line!" Catch said "I don't know how he could draw a line following that ball. I don't think his bat would draw right down the middle of the plate" Good times.
  10. First off, been awhile since I was on here. Just had a baby boy and been busy. First boy. A few of you said Congrats already, so I thank you for that. Anyway now back to umpiring after take a few weeks off and a question came up which lead to another one, which lead to another one etc. Any help would be great. I was PU. R1. F1 brings the first pitch home in slide step and it is a strike. On pitch two F1 doesn't slide step. He lefts his knee up much higher then the first pitch. BU balks him. Coach comes out and ask him and BU explains that he was deceving the runner by changing the level he lifted his leg is a balk. The coach argued for a minute but we played on. After game I asked him to explain the call. He said the samething he did before. I didn't have a rule book, is this a balk? Seems that I have seen the pros change the leg level, but maybe I'm wrong. This lead us to another question. If the pitcher is in he stretch and after he starts to come from the plate and he brings the ball out of his glove, then puts it back in, is that a balk? I called it, to me it looks like he is deceving the runner, but I can't find it in the book. Thanks Guys
  11. Just a check swing appeal. No big deal
  12. It is great. Lets you email your partner and get everything all lined up. Works great
  13. Awful jokes,but I laughed!
  14. I think it is. There doesn't need to be contact, just intent or is it intent to distract? I don't know the excat ruling but I know he can't do what he was doing that.
  15. Looks like you got a wreck. If he stepped out of the back of box, yeah he is out. That would have been your way out. If he didn't move, I would have counted the run and got my third out at third base. Your PU didn't do you any favors but it looks like it ended up right.
  16. I say the big bonus doing a legion, or high school level in a big area is I can go weeks or months not doing the same teams. We guys in our association that drive in from Cape and from ILL to do games. I was with a guy last weekend(granted it was rained out) and he was over 90 miles away. So come on up moblue, the more the merry.
  17. Oh thanks. I will look it to it pretty soon. No problem I will just do your league. You guys are one of the top around anyway
  18. Hey MoBlue was that game being played in Wildwood in St. Louis county? There was a big tourney going on at the loacal assocation, and I ran into one of the coaches at Mcdonalds and I thought he said it was Cal Ripken. Just wondered.
  19. Hey Thunderhead, how you feeling today?
  20. That is how it should be.
  21. That is how I do it.
  22. Yeah, I guess that must be a St. Louis thing. I think Juniors can be older then 16u. One team I know has three or four kids that are done with high school. Anyway I look at it I'm done with it. I can't take it. These clowns that coach these kids are out of sight silly. I can't take it anymore. Like the one guy said, if I told him to leave then it becomes my fault for looking in the stands. I'm over it. I can't do it anymore. Yawetag I think I'm going to join the one league you do so I can do baseball and softball and stay with my other association for legion and showcases. I'm over those guys with their little kids.
  23. I'm not saying I didn't kick the balk. I probably did.
  24. I told you I mad mistakes.
  25. Taking the signs before he was on the Rubber. He was catching getting the signs and then throwing. After reading it, looks like I kicked that one. No arguement about that call, however.
