I need a new CP my old Gold WV needs to be replaced. Don't think I want a new WV, just never really liked it. I know it's safe, but want something else to try. No on the All-Star System 7. Tried it too bulky. I Mainly do high school, all levels. I want protection but not the bulk. What do you all recommend?

Probably the sleekest CP out there :HS (sleek means low-profile)

Aside from that, ...I agree w/ Fittske

Some guys "bulky" means heavy.....? Because its not the lightest chest protector in the world. But I guess to each there own. I agree with Fitts if you don't like the Gold, Platinum, and Allstar. Then I guess you'll have to look for a douglas or a champion for a hardshell. Oh wait I forgot there's also the Air Shutt! Mepetty what is your build?

I wouldn't consider the All-Star as "bulky" either. I think it has a lower profile than the Douglas...at least on me.

I guess if you are looking for low profile and are willing to sacrifice protection, you should consider the Schutt. I saw Pete from MW Ump Blog wearing it this summer and I had to call him over to the fence to see if he was even wearing anything.

I'm pretty stocky. Put it this way when I put the all star system 7 on I had no neck. Worse than any shoulder pads I ever wore playing football. Maybe I didn't fit it right? I do want protection. But also low profile. Anyone know if the shutt is safe enough for varsity level ball?

I've seen them, never worn one. I know Pete gave a review on it on MWU see link for your reading pleasure.... http://midwestump.blogspot.com/search/label/Schutt

the douglas CP is indeed a collectiable item . however the champion P220 is available all over the place (there are 2 smaller model#'s )also , pete at MWU gave a very good review on this CP . i have one and it is a good CP , i took a shot the other year , at 80 mph on the shoulder , with no ill effects .

Ah! Jason is telling on me!

The Schutt and Douglas are the lowest profile chest protectors I have tested. For what its worth, the Douglas is also the lightest hard shell CP tested. To view all of the Midwest Ump chest protector reviews, clink this link: http://midwestump.blogspot.com/search/label/Chest%20Protectors

Is the Schutt safe? Well, compared to what? It's not going to burst into flames when hit by a foul ball. The first Schutt CP I tested was down right dangerous. This redesign still has some issues, but I wouldn't call it dangerous. Is it less protective than the Douglas? Absolutely. Especially against Ken's insults. ;)

The All Star does hang over the shoulders more than a Wilson. The shoulders are more like a Douglas. If you did not like the fit of the All Star I am not sure you will like the Douglas either. I would think that you could get the All Star to fit better with some adjustment. It took me about three games to get mine just right. Now it fits like a second shirt. It doesn't slip and I never have to hitch it up.

The feeling of bulk on the all star may come from the fact that the shoulder caps seem to sit quite high. For some this makes them feel like a line backer.....
