PU at Sophomore game tonight, required both teams to remove knob covers from the bats. Claiming they made the bats illegal. :WTF I haven't heard of this before. Any comments?:HS

It's a little plastic/rubber ring that goes around the bottom of the bat, on the knob of it. Most of the one's I've seen tend to make the knob larger and provide more grip so it isn't slipping against your hand.

These things...they put them on the knob to either force the hitter to choke up or take away the sting of a miss-hit ball (:WTF). They also come in colors, and some don't extend up the handle at all, just cover the knob. I never knew anyone that used one but I saw a few on other teams in HS and one or two in college, usually a smaller leadoff guy who used it to force himself to choke up, but no one ever said anything. I'm not sure how it makes it an illegal bat.

1-3-2.........with a knob that is permanently and securely fastened.

They are added to the knob and not permanently and securely fastened, hence it makes the bat illegal.

Added to the knob, yes, but they aren't the knob...1-3-2 says the knob must be permanently fastened, not that you can't put something on the knob. I would interpret that to mean as long as the knob was permanently and securely fastened, you could stick something over the knob.

As long as he's swinging, he can strap a live chicken to it, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, you laugh now, but who'll be laughing when PETA* protests your next game? :rollinglaugh:

* - People Eating Tasty Animals

Don't you dare jinx me this way. I work just a few blocks from the PETA world HQ. They make it no fun to go to the circus with your kids among other things. I'd hate to see them at a baseball game.

Around here we call them People Embarassing the Tidewater Area

Just curious, do you ever see the president of PETA walk in with a mink coat in the middle of winter?

Never seen her, but I know some people who know her and even those with views at the extreme opposite of her say she's a very nice person.

Just as an aside, you can wear no leather, no silk, no fur or wool when you work there. I know 1 person who worked there for a very short time.

No...she recommends *cough*relations*cough* with animals rather than eating wearing them.

Back to the topic...the only objection to the coves would be if they made the handle flush with the knob, and most of the ones I have seen do not.

When we do the circus we set up an area for the PITA protests. This year we had three people for one show. Tremendous turnout. Of course one gy is particularly rabid and almost went to jail for getting out of line with my boss.
