They've also got the blue shirt. And $16 less than ump-attire to boot. Too bad they won't ship to Canada.

I stand corrected. I thought I read Honig's was the MLB supplier on this site. My bad.
-
I believe this will be the first off-season for them. I was under the impression that this was the first year they were used by MLB (not sure if they were available before). So, we'll see. I doubt it though, since they are a premium item.

I agree with UMPTT is some respects. In some leagues profanity in a conversation is acceptable as long as it's not personally directed and as long as the fans cannot hear the exchange (obvisouly in this post, this is not the case). This is a men's league with children watching (I assume). I know emotions can get involved in umpiring, BUT we are held to a higher standard. We must keep our cool and be the bigger man. If the young umpire would've come out of the confrontation without going "over the line", he would've had the respect of the players involved. Now he will forever be known as the young, cocky, unprofessional umpire and never have the respect of the two teams. He should've dumped U3 as soon as he got personal and walked away.

I was PU during a Senior Men's Provincial Championship game (this is the open men's division in Canada) and I had a banger at the dish. On the ball hit to F8 I started at the point of the plate. I then reacted to the throw which brought me into the infield where I had the perfect view of the tag (almost Bruce Froemmingesque). OUT at the plate to end the game. I then realized my progression as an umpire -- I let my baseball senses take me to the best position to see the play.

Hey Rich, I think there's something wrong with your caps lock button.
-
Totally agree. Gotta love the coaches who get offended when you say, "Nope, I don't need to ask!"
-
Looks in decent shape, but like you said it is navy. I am currently looking at a black coat from GD but if you can scoop it for $60, it might be worth a look.

Is there anything wrong with saying, "only two out, Catch."?
-
I wouldn't talk about it during the game. If he was calling a good game (like you mentioned in your post) leave him be. It can get him thinking about it and concentrating less on the task at hand. Save that talk for the dressing room.

I'm not a big fan of the broken trim and the side stripe, but I do like the solid colored collar.
-
Haven't you heard, the BU now must wear a shirt that matches the PU's CP.
-
Just so everyone knows, baseballsavings.com is offering an additional 10% off on most items.

Can everyone all just get along? We're all here to help each other. And come on, don't you call outs in pitch machine games too?
-
did your partner also wear pink or were you by yourself?
-
I agree with the inerpretations (ie. no attempt at the pitch -- no strike), but the part of the situation that always gets me is that if you leave your bat motionless and the pitched ball hits the bat it's in play, foul, etc. But if you leave your bat motionless and the pitch misses your bat, it's a ball. It took me awhile to wrap my head around it. It never seemed right to me, but I know the rules are the rules and this is the accepted interpretation.

I use the Honig's Cap Caddy. They are a lot more durable that the ones used to wash caps in. They hold 2 caps nicely but you cannot use them for washing.

I found this post on "My new partner" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "Post Of The Month October, 2010"

Exactly --- TAKE A LOOK!!! Then there's no doubt and you don't have every sports radio show in America taking shots at the umpires again. But imagine if it was reviewed and reversed. RFU has 2 overturned in the same inning.
-
So does the 2 runners at one base tag rule (following runner out) only apply if the runners have advanced?
-
You were umpiring a level equivalent to the LLWS in October?
-
I may be wrong here but here goes nothing. I assume R3 was standing off the bag when he was tagged for the second out. Then R1 (the following runner) is out when both are tagged at second. Please Rich, chime in.

You called him out --- he's out! 9.02 (a) Any umpire's decision which involves judgement, such as, but not limited to, whether a batted ball is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or a ball, or whether a runner is safe or out, IS FINAL. No player, manager, coach or substitute shall object to any such judgement decisions. We had your situation occur in a BC Provincial Championships in 2009 which ended up with an upheld protest. So, every clinic in our province now deals with this exact situation.

I had a situation this past summer in a Senior Mens game (open men's division in Canada). As I started to conduct the plate meeting the home team took the field. My BU saw that the pitcher was ready to warm up and tried to move the plate meeting up the first base line. "Lets let the pitcher warm up." he said. I quickly said, "Nope, we're doing it right here." And that was that. After the game I tried to set him straight, but you could tell the light wasn't coming on.

I know this. Sorry, my response was too brief. I was refering to the situation where the ball was not put into play and the balk was enforced.
