Suspended game or Revert to last completed inning???
Minnz replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Situations
I know in some states they let the conference or district decide their own rules. So many ways it is done out there in the three states I have worked in. I saw forget it and end it there. If it is good enough for MLB... -
Runners usually aren't an issue. Most head coaches will call their runners over to the 3b coaching box. Let them warm up, warm arms=better throws to 1B=more outs.
-
The one issue I have is they want the 1st base umpire at B with a runner on 2nd. Should say EXCEPT when 2 outs correct? With runner on 2B and 2 outs we move the first base guy back to A and bring third base ump to C.
-
I agree with the folks who say start the least experienced guy at the plate IF it is a series. If you only have one game your best guy goes behind the plate.
-
I use whatever we got around home plate. As for keeping a pearl for the end of the game why? We are about outs and strikes and keeping games moving. A used ball is softer less likely to go out of the park and better grips for a pitcher. If the coach doesn't want to give you more than 3 or 4 new ones per game, heck use them, rotate them early and let the end of the game have softer balls and more outs
-
So you throw a wrapped ball to the pitcher and he has to dispose of the wrapper? Yep. The coach then realizes his mistake. You are joking right? You won't take the plastic off and put it in your pocket? I am guessing you toss guys pretty quick when the argue plays then too?

Just got my first 5A playoff assignment here in New Mexico. Enjoyed 3A the last two years and now get to start a 3b for the series. Could be exciting if we go 3 I get the dish for the final game of the series.

GA has so many issues. As someone who lived and worked games there. The whole separation of associations for public and private schools is a joke. Off topic I know but had to say it.

What the heck is Angel Hernandez doing with an adjustable cap on last night? http://www.uni-watch.com/wp-content/uploads/Screen-shot-2013-04-30-at-7.19.31-AM.png

Why not just start the zone that wide? Why wait until it is a blowout?
-
if only they would rid of this rule name. Misnamed and way to over protective of players. Now I will get yelled at and be told I need to worry about player safety more.
-
So lucky to not be part of that association right know but in the same state. Talked to a few of my other umpires in the state and we all seemed to say the same thing. Body language is what you read more than hearing words. That would tell you if the teams were about to get into it. Also, the fact this umpires has a very Anglo name does not help.

I don't full disagree with you. I have been told by a personal injury lawyer that if he gets smoked by a baseball inside or outside dugout will not change the outcome. Each lawyer will find their loophole and whoever is best wins. There are so many safety things we can banter and do not want to get off topic, but like I find games moves better if you don't have to keep looking over to get HC in dugout if he is a fence sitter.
-
If there is any type of flinch I am giving him the base. In he is in batters box and makes any movement that is not diving into the pitch he gets the bag. Box belongs to batter, pitcher needs to find the zone better. Basically don't dive at it batter and I let you have first base. I used to be a lot harder on keeping kids in the box and not awarding but have seen the light. I blame the pitcher for having bad location.
-
You have him safe? When in doubt he's out! Move the game along and sell the hell out of the out call. So you make SH*# up/ Make stuff up nope...looked out to me from what I didn't see. I didn't see he was safe either haha.
-
No buckets or chairs allowed outside of dugout. If the HC is not being a jerk we are more ok about him standing outside of dugout against the fence or wall. As long as he is right next to dugout and is behaving, not an issue. of course if you want letter of the law from NFHS keep everything in dugout. Our association figures if they are behaving and its easier to talk to defense or pitcher and keeps game moving who cares. I will saw a few umpires in our association disagree and will stick to letter of law and HC remains inside always.
-
Keep them in the dugout I agree.
-
Because that is where the word substitution is listed

Am I wrong in saying if any umpire sees the zone better behind the mound than behind the plate should never be doing anything above Little League? I just am wowed by the fact people think the zone is seen better behind the mound instead of over the catcher shoulder...

In New Mexico we run rating system of 100-500 and go in increments of 50 if you will. 100-200 is the same except 100 allows you to do state finals. All levels for those ratings. 300-Highest you can do is 4A district games (we have go up to 5A in New Mexico) 350-No varsity district games 400-No varsity games 500-C-team and Mid-school only

This is where I have an issue I guess. When I played, if I went in to slide high my intent was to knock the SS/2B off the play. Anytime spikes go high I would think intent is there. Now like I said I before, heck contact should happen this is baseball and the FED has gone too far for safety on things like this. I do not want to eject kids (in fact I have a very very slow trigger finger) for playing good hard baseball, but anytime you go above the knee isn't that intent to do something outside the normal rules?
-
New Mexico sates Shirts: Navy, Light Blue, Black or Cream as long as all partners match. Navy pullover is technically only approved, but we all wear the black throughout the state. Pants: Gray Hats; Black or navy and must be fitted Wish they would allow red to be worn, such a great color to reflect the sun in the warm days. Not a huge fan of the look but like the comfort.

Dumb question. What they are getting it is the pitcher can argue all he wants but runners can advance. Basically telling umpires to not call time to let a kid argue and look stupid. Let the argument cost him some base runner movements, do not penalize the offense by calling time.
-
So the always entertaining and (IMO dumb rule) of forced slide popped up this past weekend. R1 slide high and made contact above the knee. FED rules state that is the automatic call and R1 and BR are now out. Here is the questions though that came up casually with a coach. How do you determine when the intent in malicious. Some people have said anytime you slide high you are going in hard and malicious, others say it is just baseball. of course in the FED rules you have to be nice and safe and can't even slide hard. So fellow umpires, when would you eject for a slide with contact above the knee vs. just enforcing the force play slide rule penalty.
