To avoid forfeit the team needs an actual school official to be in the dugout. It can be a coach from another sport or any teacher, admin etc. to avoid forfeit They new "coach" can't be on the field unless they are in proper uniform.

So on the Cooperstown Dream Park website what is all that about applying to be an umpire and the program paying your expenses if you are accepted?

Can someone explain this a bit? On the website it seems you apply to be an umpire and they pay your way. But on here people are asking for teams to bring them with?

Oh was mostly a joke there. If the guy deserves to get tossed I will toss. I just have slowed my eject button over the years.

I always say if I have to toss a guy then I have paperwork to file with the HS association. Makes me far less annoyed and far slower trigger finger.

Another easy guide that can help mostly (not always of course) "1 from the rubber; 2 from the field."

Varsity game 2nd inning and HC goes to the mound and clearly wants me to come break up the meeting so he can say something about my zone. HC:"Are you a high or low strike zone umpire?" Me "I call it like the rule book states." HC "Well that's BS nobody uses the rulebook what the hell is wrong with you?" Me "Nothing sir and you are gone now!"

Ok I am not trying to sound like an a$$ but are umpires really caring if people sit right behind home plate? Do you really listen and hear the fans that much it bothers you? I can careless at a HS game or LL game for that matter who sits where. Look at the field do your job well for 2 hours and go home. Why do you even listen to what happens behind you? Seasoned umpires will not even hear most of that is in the stands.

Are you asking for more than what NFHS and/or your state association covers?

Is it bad if the parents drink during the game? I mean don't most of you have a beer or two as you change into your uniform? Is this not a country wide practice to have a few roadies before we hit the field?

Why do you restrict so fast? I have always let them have a few words and warm then to stop if not the HC before restricting or dumping. Just wondering...

They have made indicators that have a stop watch in them. Have not seen one with digital BSOI displays though.

Guess I will not be buying the NB. Seems without a jock is not a good piece and boy do I hate to wear one of those. Can't remember the last time I wore one playing/umping hockey or baseball. Oh well. Sticking with Shock Doctor I guess.

There have been some solid points as usual in this group posting. I have one issue. Everyone is talking how the rule says to call it immediately. You are leaving out something...it says "he umpire shall immediately declare “Infield Fly” for the benefit of the runners." Nothing about when you see it or when someone gets camped under it or calls for it. If you call the IFF when the fielder calls for it...who is to say the fielder is just calling for it without even seeing it, trying to make it look like he easily has it. A smart fielder uses calling the ball on tough ones to hold the runners at bay sometimes. DId he call it late? YES Were any runners in jeaopardy? NO Now if a double play had happened and the lateness of the call hurt the runners, now we may have an interesting rules protest to actually consider. We do not since runners advanced safely. Right or wrong on the call I just wanted to add the immediate reference is often being used wrong is these and so many other talks.

So I have to ask because I am thinking of buying one. Will the Nutty Buddy not fit in the compartment in compression shorts like Shock Doctor? I do not wear a jock or anything besides the compressions with a normal cup right now. Will I have issues going to the NB?

I say 1 or 2 and have the coach not slecting stand behind your back for proof.

To be all serious there is an easy solution, IMO. TD's as we all have said want the cash and that is all they care about. Get the teams to pay and come bac next year. Why not get a UIC for the tournament. He worksd witht he TD and the TD let's the UIC make all the decisions on assignments etc. That is what moast areas I have worked in do and usually makes it far easier since umpire only talks to the UIC.

In video 1/slide 2...can he get any further from the catcher? Anytime your mask falls off...little too much in the 3rd strike.

Next time you have him get ahead of it. Tell him here is the rule go look in the book and explain why he is right. Always fun since most do not have a rule book right there.

The only other place you could go was to your car to take cover. I see no problem if you were in both dugouts. Some will say you are never allowed in there. As the batter walked away take off your mask and be strem yet cordial on "I don't want to hear another word. or That's enough about the strike zone." Ignore the dugouts no reason to talk to them. Coaches only.
