I was actually at this 6 hour marathon last Saturday. Because it was under review they can show it on the large scoreboard which they did repeatedly from different angles. My favorite angle was the one from first to second base. It clearly showed Holliday turn his head with the ball and watch Bogaerts touch second then he turned around and headed back to first. The throw was not far offline but to the plate side of first which for a gold glover like Moreland would be an easy grab if not impeded. There were arguments that he thought maybe Moreland had touched first base so he was avoiding being doubled up with a force being off but he clearly was looking at Moreland in front of the bag. Then they reviewed it twice. Why? I dunno....

I guess he meant when pitchers go from a windup R3 usually takes a huge lead vs a set position. That's the only thing I can figure but that's what he said.
-
It was explained at the Baltimore clinic that pitchers were rotating their pivot foot so much at the start of their windup that if there was a runner on third the runner could not tell if he was in the stretch or a windup so it would limit his lead. He was pivoted around that much from the onset and the rules interpreter demonstrated it. Penalty with no one on is warning if base runners - balk, no warning. I've personally never seen it.

You've got the wrong harness. First off put the delta flex harness not the force 3 on the Gold and it won't move at all. I have both the Gold and Platinum and have the delta flex on both. Similar situations as you describe and it solved them. The cps never moved and once adjusted they stay that way. Just like your mask harness, put a little tape near the buckles on the strap ends for extra security to prevent possible strap loosening but they shouldn't. Good luck.

Very true. Thanks for the response.

I already have the poly spandex but you can't exactly wear them in March and April up here in the frozen tundra without multiple UA leggings.. This would only leave the Davis ones to get because the new Honig's ones are junk.

I see on the website that the Smitty Polywools are drastically reduced and they say closeout on them. Are they being replaced with a newer model or not being carried altogether? One of my associations requires that we have them and I just bought 2 pair each of plate and bases over the last month and a half. If I had waited I could have saved over $80. I'm a little bummed right now.

Are the New Smitty Performance Polyspandex the Next New Umpire Pant?
celt62 replied to JimKirk's topic in Umpire Equipment
Got mine today and they're already getting hemmed. Added bonus... the spandex make the waist a little stretchy too.- 379 replies

It's all yours then. Go for it.

Nah. With shipping too much used. I still have to replace the pads with TWs. Thanks anyway.
-
Gotcha. My offer still stands at $140. I have to haggle because it's used.
-
Perfect. Right on.

You're selling this same mask on Ebay starting at $150 with free shipping. Says new without tags and below used in 50-70 games. Take $140 now and I'll buy it.

same color as the pants that way everything blends in

I bought plate and base polydex pants when they were on sale last month after seeing them first hand in Baltimore. They are very nice but noticeably darker than most charcoal pants so I can't see wearing them during the regular season unless you all have them because you won't even come close to matching. I will definitely wear them for summer ball though in the heat and humidity.

The old Smitty Polys were not very good. I have the newer Premium ones with the proper color pockets and all and I like them very much. They're night and day compared to the old ones. I've had the Honig's in the past. Don't get me wrong, the old Honig's were the greatest and I haven't seen another pant that comes close outside of the MLB Hardwicks. But I think the new Premium Smittys are better than the new Honig's which are absolute crap. I have not tried the Davis' so I have no opinion on them.
-
I just saw that Ump-Attire is having a sale on their Premium Smitty Poly Wools. Regularly $59.99, the plates are now $49.95 and the base pants are $39.99. it doesn't say how long that they'll be on sale for. I just bought a pair of each.

It was handed to us when we checked in at the clinic in Baltimore. I figured it had to be approved and reviewed by the NCAA wouldn't you think if they gave it to us? It's question number 9. I really don't get it. I guess I have to be more thorough next time. 2017 Quiz.pdf

I missed three. I don't know if that one was one of them or not until next week. If it is wrong it boggles my mind as to why they would give wrong information without some kind of email telling you the correct one or that they screwed it up in the handout. I know I got an email about the catch and carry mistake with a link to the proper answer from NASO the other day regarding their study guide. I think that since it was in the quiz section of the NCAA handout they should give a flyer to everyone if that answer was indeed wrong.
-
I believe there was a vague reference to this in the Referee Study Guide. I can't remember exactly because I just finished the test and I'm a little fried right now. But because of that reference I answered "A" also.
-
So the handout they gave to us in Baltimore with this exact question is wrong? Why would they do that?
-
This answer is easy. It is "D". This exact test question is right out of the Baseball 2017 guide that they give out at the clinics. It is number "9", answer "C" in the back of the handout. The answer right from their booklet is... "This is coach interference. The ball is dead immediately and R2 is declared out. All other runners return to the last legally touched base at the time of the interference". Rules cited... 2-51, 3-3-e, 8-5-f

They clearly stated to us that it was NOT when he actually comes set. If he takes the sign with shoulders in and tries to go from a standard set position after he will have been considered to have started from a windup. Not his final movement. They repeated this point over and over. The rules editor explained it as over the past few years that from a windup position the pitchers have started to turn and rotate to the point of looking like they were going from a set position when in actuality it was a windup. They wanted to stop it. Personally I've never seen it in the northeast but it must have been happening elsewhere.
