  1. From the Ump-Attire.com Facebook page:
  2. Club equipment managers ship them from park to park. I believe there is a back up set of gear and uniforms at each park in case their stuff doesn't arrive. MLB'ers pretty much don't touch their stuff except to put it on and take it off. Similar to my experience. The high schools have been so great providing personnel that clean our uniforms and transport our gear to the next game site. They added a masseuse in the air conditioned locker rooms for after game massages too. It's been Heaven! I want to work where you work :|
  3. I don't have anything to add to the discussion except that it appears on the follow-up that Brad Ausmus (Tigers manager) is arguing that Shoemaker did, in fact, balk on that play: http://m.mlb.com/video/v34837161/?game_pk=382090
  4. In my defense, I've not actually worn any shin guards with traditional hook/loop fasteners. My old Honig's used their flat plastic clips (see here) and my Davishins use their own plastic "button hole" fasteners (these guys). I've never had a problem with wearing out my pants because of the clips on my shin guards. Also never had a problem running with them, so I don't think that's really affected me much at all.

  7. This... I have no words. Literally no words.
  8. EEEE for me in NB. I'm not sure I could "size up" enough in Zigs without looking like I borrowed from Ronald McDonald. paddlefoot. Smfh It's weird; I wear a 4E with NB base shoes, but standard D width for the plates.
  9. I'd be interested in the equipment bag on its own if you're looking to sell separately.
  10. Move further south? But... but... but... free healthcare.
  11. Because it was bush league. /Canadian
  12. I just wish Ump-Attire's shipping to Canada was more reasonable. $36 for a cap is a bit much!
  13. This is something I've noticed a lot recently: my partners always want to gab between innings. Unless we have something specific to discuss, I go to short right field or P15 (not sure what you guys call it in the States) and simply watch. There's no reason to talk about anything, so why talk?

  15. Now that I've got three masks, I figure I may as well get rid of my old one and someone can get some use out of it. Still in great condition with only the occasional scuff on the frame itself. Asking $20 plus shipping, payable via PayPal. Pics are huge, so here's an imgur album instead: http://imgur.com/a/iwnYY

    Balk

Um, yeah that was kinda pretty super obvious.
  17. "You can hear it even louder inside that face mask, no doubt." No SH*#.
  18. Damn, that was quite the shot. Didn't look as bad as the one Jim Wolf took almost exactly a month ago, but that one hit him pretty square.
  19. From what I've heard, Majestic will be introducing a new pro style shirt next year. But I've only heard rumours.
  20. Resurrecting this... I assume by now the System 7 CP is sold?
  21. This is the best analogy I've heard for the various mechanics and interpretations we can be taught.
  22. Just thought I'd share this in case anyone hadn't seen it. http://www.ump-attire.com/Baseball-Umpire-Equipment/Gear-Footwear/Specials/?page=1&perpage=24&cat=171&orderby=price%20desc&search= Lots of stuff on sale, but thankfully nothing I need.

    Pads

Living the dream indeed. Pretty awesome!
  24. I guess I'm sort of an edge case, but for me it's entirely up in the air. This year, I've probably spent nearly $1,000 on gear because I've needed to get pants, shirts, belts, caps, shoes, assorted protective gear, etc. I guess that's what I get for jumping back in with a bit of enthusiasm That being said, I'm pretty happy with my gear setup as it stands right now (could use a couple extra pairs of pants and compression baselayers, but beyond that I'm good), so I'd definitely drive that $500 into a clinic or two. Unfortunately there aren't very many clinics near me that fit with my schedule either but if there were more that did I'd certainly look at those. When I last umpired, I was taking an 8-week course once a year in the off-season that I found immensely valuable. As far as I know, there aren't many more clinics like that in the Great White North (at least, not near me). I'd love to spend a week or month in the States just training, but it's not very feasible.
  25. Here's a similar play where backswing interference was called: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/63817564/v34331025 Right at the end you can hear Mike DiMuro explaining it to Lackey: "They overturned it at second, made him safe, but he has to go back to first on the backswing interference, so..."
