  1. This thread makes my head hurt. Once the first pitch is thrown then IMO there is nothing you can do about it. It's you and your partners fault for letting it get that far.
  2. Speedy recovery. I don't know about Jersey but in SoCal 75mph is going slow.
  3. So last night I was at the Pirates-Padres game (Go Bucs!) and did witness a lot of offensive stuff from folks during the national anthem. The main thing was people still walking around like nothing was happening and it wasn't just a couple of people but several hundred trying to get to their seats. Now that was offensive. The concession workers even stopped what they were doing while the anthem played but I saw plenty of folks oblivious to their surroundings. Edit to add: It took a lot for me to not snap back into my Marine Corps days and eat these peoples souls for dinner.
  4. Bravo on the call. My counter to this is that you are asking for trouble when you make this call, especially at this age group. I don't think you can EJ on a call like this because most folks assume its a strike even though he technically never offered.
  5. They aren't my beloved Pirates.
  6. I would not have let the coach return to the game. They voluntarily EJ themselves but I'll still take the credit for it, need to up my EJ totals. They can leave for a call of nature and that's about it as far as I'm concerned.
  7. It's hard for me to watch this video objectively because I dislike the Cards so much, but clean play in OBR, FPSL in FED and I defer to the NCAA guys for their interp. The video angle makes RLI tough to call for me but I can see the argument for it.
  8. I'm planning to go to the Jim Evans California Classic in San Diego in October. I know its no where near WV but hey, it's San Diego.
  9. Just ordered mine finally. After working some 12u games this past weekend I knew it was time to make the change. I'm not as worried about getting hit doing HS but youth ball, terrible for my mechanics.
  10. "Nose to toes and box to box coach." That is my answer to that question no matter what the level of coaches are asking that dumb of a question. Otherwise, I think you handled it fine.
  11. I was recently told to call the glove on those curves. I have done that my last couple of games and though it felt weird there was very little chirping about it.
  12. I used my Force3 with an 8 stitch once, never again. I normally use the combo 4 stitch hat for the plate. I love the defender mask. I used my old mask for nostalgia, never again. I've taken a couple of shots and felt nothing with the Force3 mask, it just took some getting used to but I love it.
  13. Yeah when I posted this I didn't realize it was under the college section. As for what we do, as the PU if I see something weird about to go down then I try to angle myself in such a way that I am not having to say "Sorry, didn't see it" all the time. No. He was backing up and not side to side. Plus, what ElkOil said.
  14. "You mean to tell me you CAN'T tell where the catcher is set up from 100 feet away but you can see where the ball is?"
  15. So while this ultimately gets handled properly, what could you do better, if anything, on a play like this in 2-man mechanics?
  16. Both methods work for me.
  17. I love not using the indiclickerator when on the dish. Tried it out some last year and now this year I rarely use one. I'll use it for solo games and games that are getting out of hand.
  18. I'm a vet and not offended as well. In all actuality, the anthem is over and they are just standing on the line. I personally like @‌MajorDave 's approach to handling the situation.
  19. I was originally supposed to have been on the bases but my partner got caught up in real job stuff and was running late so I took the plate. Both pitchers were throwing strikes, not many walks but the bats were out in force. Final score was 27-11 home team but at one point it was 11-11. We had just about every conceivable situation you can think of. Bottom 6th the pitcher is up to bat with two outs and I told him we have a blowout strike zone and he obliged by swinging at anything close and missing. 1-2-3 in the 7th and it was finally over. I had the home team the day before but I had been on the bases. The F1 to close out the game had been playing F3 the day before so I knew already I could let him know what was up when he came up to bat. The 3.5 hours was punishment for bragging about the 1.5 hour game the day before too, that finished 1-0. Great defensive game followed by a slugfest and poor defense.
  20. Well, we have a lot of inline hockey here too so I am just used to not dropping "ice" seeing that I am always having to explain the differences between the two.
  21. I did this many years ago when I was 19 or 20 and was behind the plate for a 12u game. A couple of parents dropped a few very loud F-bombs and I pulled off the rare double fisted EJ mechanic. We did have the authority to EJ parents from the game at that particular park.
  22. Well, I don't have to shovel snow in sunny San Diego but I do referee ice hockey year round.
  23. They wanted us to use FED for this tournament.
  24. We were playing FED.
  25. No he was not. They were throwing away from the batter to prevent the bunt. Kid batting was determined to put the ball in play. Tying run on 3rd with 1 out. So yeah, I balked in the tying run.
