  1. If this coach were anywhere near my 11 year old he would never play for that man again. Someone has to be the adult out there... It may take a village to raise our children but I don't want the village idiot influencing my children. My letter to that groups BOD would be short and to the point as well as the letter to the TD where they played and the governing body that controls the parent organization. Oh and I would vote with my check book and never send a dime to this team EVER again as long and that coach is involved.
  2. I am still running into this... click on a thread and only see a white screen. When going back to the menu the system shows that thread as read.
  3. For your protest did you put the P in the book before the officials left the field? 4.19(d) allows the protest to be made on ineligible players all the way until the umpires leave the field but once discovered should be addressed ASAP. The umpires erred in not requiring the catcher to be removed immediately as this is a straight rules violation and not a judgement issue. Did you follow all of the steps required in 4.19 including sending a letter to the league president detailing your protest and what rule was violated within 24 hours of protesting to the umpires? 4.19(f) details out how the protest should proceed once submitted. I agree the umpires should have caught this and not allowed it to proceed however I do not track pitch counts during the game. I note who my pitcher/catcher is ever inning and if I see my former catcher or pitcher coming to F1 or F2 I will check accordingly. If pitching and I note that player was the catcher for any part of a 4th inning I will not allow him/her to pitch. If a catcher I will inquire of the scorekeeper for pitch counts... if 41 or more then no catching today.
  4. LL goes both ways. Whomever asked for the time out is charged. The other side may conference and not be charged as long as they immediately end their conference when the other team ends and does not delay the game. If they do not break and delay the game then they can be charged but good game management should keep this from occurring.

    Conference?

Little League 5.10(d) limits offensive conferences to one time per inning. If a coach requests time again and it is granted (which we may do without knowing what they need) once we discover the reason tell the batter to get back in the box. If the player/coach does not comply the umpire may call a strike and again tell the batter to get in the box. Do this enough times and you will be getting a new batter and then most likely a new coach.
  6. Act now to be the only person in your state with an 801C license plate!
  7. Not sure I would have been able to bite back my temper... but I doubt your partner would have understood or acknowledged any of the responsibility he put you in.

What the heck is a chigger?
  9. How many times have you just given the count, say 1-2 and the next pitch is a ball... Batter turns to you and asks "what is the count?". Happens all the time. If a batter takes off on ball 3 I am going to verbalize that's only three and then let the game play out. If runners advance so be it. If they get tagged out then great, that is an extra out. Not only up to the players to know the score so to speak but also the adult coaches to pay attention and know what is going on. I have had games where several times in a game the offence takes off or appears to take off for ball 4 when it was only ball 3... and guess what? That R1 is now R2 without so much as a second look. May be bush but legal... In your case if it was really only ball 3 then the umpire was wrong. Call the batter back and score that run.

Where they promptly died of thirst due to our record low rain fall.
  11. My last 2 games of the HS season are cancelled due to rain outs... I mean come on! I live in So Cal where rain is just a figment of our imagination! I'm really upset about the game tomorrow most of all... Mater Dei vrs Servite should have been a good game and an excellent way to end what has been a very fun HS season. So sad... *sob*
  12. So I am working solo on a JV game last Friday. Game is going well and so far nothing of note has popped up. Bottom of 6th there is a steal at 3rd with the absolute worse head first slide you have ever witnessed. Talking face into the dirt, helmet digging into the clay, legs curling up over the back... just a train wreck of a slide (belly flop?) but runner is safe and all I can do is gulp down a laugh 3 or 4 times. After play is over I call time for the runner to recompose himself, dig dirt out of his teeth, you know and we play on. At this point home team is winning 6-0 and is on cruise control. Move on to T7 with 2 outs. Pitcher is still shooting lasers and this game is about to be over. Strike 1... hear some voices raising from the direction of the HT dugout and a couple F bombs but the brain is not clicking in that this is actually coming FROM the dug out... As the next pitch is coming in now it gets loud. F bombs, chairs banging... Strike! Time! Look over to the dugout and just see the end result of a player being pushed; you know the actual reaction but not the actual push. There is a couple players grabbing players but the a$$ coach is just there... not engaged in stopping this just standing there. I dig deep for my best "KNOCK IT OFF NOW" voice and watch a bunch of 15-16 year old go completely deer in the head lights on me and that ends the issue. By the time the echo fades the HC is in the dug out from the box and is reaming players; especially the kid with the awesome slide who was receiving some ribbing for his performance which he did not like from his teammates. I watched the HC restore order to his team in quick order. Since it all ended so quickly and I missed who F Bombed and which player(s) did the actual pushing I gave a warning to the coach and moved on. Strike 3 and game over... As I walked away from the field (I swear I parked in a different zip code) all I could hear was the HC chewing out the team as he started them on sprints for their behavior. So did this get handled OK? Would restrictions to the HC or EJ's to the players be in order even when I did not see for certain who was the aggressors/transgressor? Thoughts?
  13. Balloon. Nuff said.
  14. I had something similar in a HS game last week. Home team pitcher is throwing lasers in the low to mid 80's, hitting all his spots and either getting K's or weak hits to the pitcher. Home team is hitting deep, scoring runs, stealing bases... playing well. I am comfortable in the zone, seeing the ball well and just having a fairly comfortable game. 3rd inning with visitors up and I ring a batter on a high in the zone strike but a strike. Coach starts in and I tell him to knock it off which he does. Inning ends and visitors are on D. Fly ball to the outfield, dropped. Another hit to center, dropped and a run scores. Hit to short stop which goes right between the wickets, run scores. Runners on 1st and 3rd... delayed steal from R1 which draws a bad throw, R3 'steals' (could have walked in) and scores. Finally inning ends... 1st batter up and what do I hear from the visitors dugout? They are still complaining about that strike call from an inning earlier! So now it is a warning to the coach about arguing balls and strikes... What a bad lesson for the players... 1 strike they did not like is why they are losing 6-0... don't blame the bad play, the bad throws, the dropped balls or give credit to the opposition for pitching well, hitting well, running well and fielding well. Silver lining? 7 innings in 1:15 and back in the car.

    Good

Best part was Maven's comment about really good announcer... all I thought right off the bat was Vin Scully... classic.
  16. Probably one of those times your hoping the skies will unleash on you and end your misery.
  17. Thank you for the replies. I missed the other thread about the tap a talk issues so thank you for reiterating the information.
  18. I would think Varsity would be a 2 man crew at least in Orange County (So Cal). You take this dugout and I'll take that dugout. Coach get your players off the field now, this is your sportsmanship warning and proceed from there. Maybe they can have a stare off after the game?
  19. Anyone else having issues with Tap a Talk since the upgrade? I cannot log into the site... I even removed the site thinking something in my setup was wrong but when I search for Umpire-Empire to add it back the site is not on the list. I was able to backdoor link into it but get a message that the forum is for members only. When clicking log in I see an error message of access denied. Should I take the hint to go away or is this just a byproduct of the upgrade to yet be ironed out?
  20. As the UIC for my kids LL I assign for regular season and local playoffs. If a coach called me to demand that a specific umpire not work his game and that he would pull his team that conversation would go South on him really quickly. He would promptly find himself in front of the BOD explaining his actions and intentions and if his replies were not appropriate his team would removed as our BOD fully supports our umpire core. His former team would be playing with a new coach. There is no way I would allow a coach to dictate who is assigned to their games unless that can demonstrate a true conflict of interest such as the umpire has a kid playing in that specific game. Don't like the calls? Don't like the zone? You were EJed? Too bad.
  21. Going out to his player on base or asking for time to huddle with his batter would qualify as a conference. Just calling the batter to get his attention and give signs or 5 seconds of instruction I would not consider a conference.
  22. I try not to umpire my son's games in Little League but if push comes to shove and the alternative is a dad who has no clue standing behind the mound? I'll jump in every time and just do what I normally would do versus having the kids play a poorly officiated game. I have yet to have an issue and find that routine just takes over in calling balls and strikes - balls are balls and strikes are strikes. And yes I have rung up my kid many more times that I would have liked but strike 3 is strike 3. On the other hand we are part of a smaller community league with fairly chill parents and coaches which I can see making a difference in my decision making process to cover a game or not. If we were in a highly competitive league/aggressive parent league and I had to endure a bunch of bitching from the parents and coaches about me covering my kids game then I maybe would not jump in so quickly. Coaches we can handle... chirpy parents on the other side of the fence line can be a different animal.
  23. Little League allows one offensive time out per inning. After granting time once and he has his pow-wow make sure to inform the coach that is his visit. If he asks for time again to meet with an offensive player tell him no. If he calls his batter over after that tell the batter to get in the box. If the batter does not then ring up a strike and tell the batter to get in the box. Repeat until someone figures it out.
  24. Other than what I found in the RIM the solution is don't let it happen. Is there no rule for illegal subs? Not even sure we can call the SPR a sub since he is already in the line up. Odd one for sure...
  25. Are you batting 9 or CBO? CBO there cannot be a SPR at all. I would think in that situation I would put the correct runner on 2nd, bring the SPR to the plate and just wait for the other manager to come to me to file his protest... 4.04 details this out pretty well and in the RIM there is a comment in there about a coach doing exactly what occurred in your game. Bottom line on this one is don't let it happen. 3.04 specifically states "a player whose name is on the team's batting order may not become a substitute runner for another member of the team. "Courtesy runner" not permitted. 7.14 details out the SPR rules (batting 9). In your game you have an illegal substitution and as such I would declare the SPR out and since he is the next batter put him in the box. I cannot find anything in the rim detailing out the specific example other than the comment in 4.04 which is do not let this happen. If your Manager has been gaming the system all game then you may have grounds for ejection on Sportsmanship issues but that is a HTBT.
