Little League home-plate helmet toss leads to lawsuit
Texas Manny replied to clawdad's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
Lemme guess, the same judge that had the infamous McDonalds hot coffee between the legs will be the adjudicator on this one. Heard about it on the radio on my way home. Absurd. The coach continued, according to reports to instruct eleven more games, work, and do all sorts of other activities long after the acheles claim was made. If anyone had their acheles tendon torn, they wouldn't be able to walk. It is the tenden that connects the foot to your leg muscles and with it torn, your foot flops like a fish, and it is extremely painful. You couldn't walk on it. -
This and only this...

Everyone, Thank you for your continued support and for helping me out by purchasing my gear. I hope that everyone who received the gear is pleased and that it will serve y'all well. Everything in this is gone. I have a few more items I will post up in a new thread. Again, thank you all. Manny -
I always did. Three left, three right. With 2 pitches left, I'd come out from behind home plate, take my mask off, extend my right hand, using BOTH my pointing and middle finger extended, I'd snap my hand forward, and yell out "Two!" I'd then check everything on me again, and then move in to sweep off home plate when the throw went down, get behind the plate, set up, then "Play!" This was done in the first inning only. It helped to set the pace. For later innings, I'd just extend my hand out in the same manner, relaxed though, and indicate with the hand "Two". No verbal necessary. Always worked well for me with this method. Relief pitchers were dealt with on a case by case basis. I usually took a peek...

I'm a little perturbed that Texas hasn't approved red yet. According to the Texas TASO site, red is an approved state wide color. It is the decision, as I understand it, of each local TASO chapter, to limit colors you can wear, or you can wear all the colors, as long as each crew member is dressed alike. Check your local association guidelines.

The only thing I would highly weigh out, in terms of the severity of the situation, is calling the police after a coach makes contact with you. There is a difference between a bump and a punch. A shove, or a knockdown. A threat, or an actual assault with equipment. I'm not saying you should take any physical abuse. NO physical violence should be tolerated. I'm just saying exercise very wise discretion when calling the police, because once you open that Pandora's box on a "questionable" reason, it's very hard to close and can come back to bite you hard. By all means, if you feel your life is threatened by the situation, get out of there and yes, call the police. Just use discretion. It is the better side of valor. Only you can know the totality of circumstances, and the level of authoritive attention needed.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts. What I am dealing with is inoperable. It's a time and waiting game... The Wilson CP has a caller on it, as with the legs. If he backs out, then I'll open the CP and SG's back to the next person in the request line. I have one pair of Reebok Zigs all black plate shoes left. I'm going to look to see if I missed anything. Thanks, Manny -

No runs. Force out on appeal at second was not removed by the appeal at first, declaring BR out, for 2nd out. No runs score.

I believe they got it bass ackwards. Once you read the throw, and it's on target, you focus on the bag, listen for the catch. Once you have the foot/catch down, you look up to check the ball is in the glove. Then you call it. If the throw is off-line, you have to make the appropriate adjustments.

Why have anything but a Plate Man in MLB anymore?

TM = Texas Manny TM = Terence Mann ... coincident ? No coincidence. Yes, I completely share the thoughts from that characterization and it sums up the game perfectly. That's why I used it. -

that's funny, last time I checked, the game is still played the same way 2 challenges per coach Manny ......... that's it ........ 2 challenges too many.... No, the game will no longer be played the same way. IR has changed that. The umpires judgment is no longer questionable. Almost all of the rules that require judgment of the umpire have been uprooted and turned upside down. What made the game human, is lost. I don't expect anyone to understand what I'm trying to say. I find and appreciate the purity in baseball's relationship between umpires and managers/players. I find the romance in the questioned or blown call, the ensuing discussion, and argument, or the ejections. Forever gone will be the play at the plate that is discussed for weeks in the purest sense. Now a thriller bang bang at the plate will be called, and what once could be history, is now subjective to artificial review. The discussion will not be about the players, or the umpire making a great call or blown call. It will be how IR changed the play. Leave the game alone. Leave the umpires alone. Leave the game on the field where it belongs; not in an office building somewhere in downtown Manhattan. This is one decision that the Commissioner has made that is outright dead on balls WRONG! -

The face of baseball will cease to exist as we know it. Since the beginning of the game, the umpire's final determination was it. His judgment stood. Now in one fell swoop, the humanistic element of baseball, which made it the most unique game, and the only true sport, has been erased. This game has stood through multiple depressions, two world wars, presidential assassinations, putting a man on the moon, natural calamities, and terrorist attacks. It has embodied the times, and reflected the pulse of the nation. The one constant through the ages since its inception has been baseball. Now, because of a few spoiled fans, uneducated announcers, and the money that they bring, baseball has died. The game will no longer resemble the wholeness and goodness it once held. That realm has been invaded and taken over by technology. This is a sad day. Baseball was a game of two teams, nine players each, under the jurisdiction of one or more umpires, played for 9 innings. Now it is a business of two teams, nine overpaid, spoiled, players, each, under jurisdiciton of one or more subjective umpires, multiple camera's, review officials in a booth far away, no purity of rules, a host of lawyers, for 9 innings. One has to ask, with all the decisions that umpires have to render, and they do so at a rate over 99.5% accuracy, is the .4 percent really worth changing the game forever? As a traditionalist, I don't think so. -
Who said that? I certainly don't believe obstruction requires contact. It requires only a change of motion or direction, which is what hindrance is, and that didn't occur with this play until the runner had to jump, and at that point the pitcher was fielding the ball. The Armbrister play is governed by an interpretation specific to the catcher and the batter-runner, so it doesn't apply. And there's nothing in that interpretation about occupying the spot or establishing position. PBUC 7.29 Batter-Runner and Catcher Collide When a catcher a batter-runner going to first base have contact while the catcher is attempting to field the ball, there is generally no violation and nothing should be called. I didn't say it WAS the Armbrister play. I said it had very similar physics. Pitcher going for the ball. Runner going for the base. Same physics. However, a catcher coming from behind a runner is not the same thing as a fielder chasing a deflection from in front of the runner. Nothing the same about it. PHYSICS: Each player was doing what they were supposed to do. Pitcher going for the ball. Runner going for his base.

Not only do we have hindrance here, it started to occur earlier than this. I'm trying to crop my still into something usable. There is no hinderance there. You cannot have hinderance unless you have contact. Contact did not occur until the runner was in the air and his feet hit the pitcher. The runner is still full stride, and his direction and speed have not changed. Ok. Who told you this lie? You do not have to have hindrance without contact. Contact only makes it easier to call but is not a requirement nor any criteria to look for. The definition of hindrance requires a change to occur in either motion or direction by an outside force. The runner never stopped running. He kept running full stride up the line. No change in speed or direction. Up until the point that the runner had to jump was there no hindrance, and by that time, the pitcher was already on the ground, fielding the ball.

He is well within a step and a reach and has fulfilled his requirement to reestablish protection. The rules do not say how the ball is to be fielded, just that it is fielded, which is what the pitcher is doing.
