  1. @udrkby. Good advice. I had a similar incident 4 years ago. Was dehydrated too much during my 4th of 6 games. My blood pressure medication, sun and not drinking a lot caused my dehydration. Was rushed to hospital and found out I was having a heart attack. The dehydration sort of masked the heart attack until my fluid levels returned to normal. Now I always have a cooler with me. 2. You should try to block yourself from doing your son’s game at all cost. You may think you can be fair to both sides but the word perception will creep into the parents of your opponents. 99.9% of the time it’s guaranteed that the parents are talking about you and waiting for the first controversial call. I have lived it and will never do it again. I have blocked all my son’s games regardless if they are home or away for the past 6 years. I even went as far as blocking doing games within the high school section to avoid any possibility of being accused of playing favoritism. Parents and coaches can be jerks and will be jerks. 3. I had an issue with a base umpire this summer during a Pony doubleheader. We (Association)have a standing rule that each umpire brings their required shirts with them to the game site incase we need to switch between games. I was plate umpire first game on a hot day with the plate area dirt area caked with dried dirt not watered for days due to tarp on it during non playing days. Met partner in parking lot 15 minutes before game time after he rolls up on his motorcycle. When I seen him wearing his light blue shirt, I reached for my other shirt and he said he only brought one shirt. His pants looked like they were not washed for weeks and wrinkled, his shirt stained with dirt and shoes were baseball cleats. Had pregame on walk to field and noticed he had a vape pipe in his pants. I asked if he was going to take back to his bike and stow it in the seat, he said he would. Once game started he kept coming in between innings to talk and I just ignored him by walking to the other baseline. After about two innings of this he disappeared to the fence and all I seen was a puff cloud. I walked over to him and asked what he was doing. Seen him fiddle with the pipe. Called both HC’s together and told them of the situation. Their league President was also on site and joined the conference. I told the coaches and president that I instructed him to take it back to his bike before the game. To cut to the end, he was asked to leave, a report was made and he no longer is doing games for the association. Completed first game and second game solo with additional pay. 4. I see standing on the defensive side has its advantages as that you can see the batter. I guess it is up to the individual as to what suits them. I use the clicker as I personal preference. Been doing it for so long it’s a habit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. When I am base umpire I stand in short right field also counting the pitches. After pitch 6 in the first inning and pitch 3 with the same pitcher, I start to make my way to the A position on the 1st base foul line. I never go in to talk to HP umpire unless there is a need to. 6. I believe so. I stand on the offensive side between innings and count the pitches as well. I use the indicator starting with the balls. At pitch number three I turn to the on deck circle and show two fingers and then the catcher showing the same two fingers. After the fourth pitch show one finger to both the on deck and catcher use the strike dial to count the last two pitches. After the fifth pitch and catcher throw down move to plate with brush in hand and dust off the plate. This gives the batter time to make their way to the plate. I occasionally run into issues with catchers trying to get an extra pitch in, but this routine helps me with the counts. In the first inning I watch the first two pitches on the defensive side foul line, the next two pitches behind the catcher on the slot of the defensive side, pitches 5&6 behind the catcher in the slot on the offensive side. After the sixth pitch I show 2 more pitches to the catcher and on deck batter while moving to the offensive foul line with brush in hand. After throw down to second base, I move into plate and dust off plate. If catcher misses the counts or ignores my finger counts they are out of luck. I then call for batter while standing at plate facing catcher. I have had the pitcher throw an additional pitch after calling for batter and turn to the defensive coach and issue a warning. 7. We were trained to keep both arms at the side and give at least 3 feet between us. Listen to him and then interject that the agreement in done and play ball. If the coach continues to argue and advance to us put the stop sign up. If he still argues and still advances toss the a$$hole. You have given him two chances to stop and head back to the bench. This is then ejection worthy and no TD should dispute it. If they do, I did my last game for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. What is this OP trying to say? Please close this thread due to incoherent rambling. I know 5 year olds can write a better post than this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. @SleptTillNoonLOL,@maven. That is what I would have ruled as well. The bullpen should have yelled to their player to let it drop in foul territory and no harm no foul or in this case no interference. Better yet, the fielder should have known the situation and reacted accordingly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. A welcome to SCRookie from SW Pennsylvania. Remember to try to get more strikes than balls. If you can steal a strike call it. That will widen your zone up to 30% more. I usually call up to the top of the zone to the lower part of the zone. A ball width inside and out on upper levels and to the white line on the other batter box if I can get it for the lower levels. This usually makes the game go faster and gets the batters swinging. But stay consistent regardless where you call them. Coaches want their batters to swing instead of waiting for walks. 11. The governor of Pennsylvania just halted all sports for schools until at least 1/4/21 along with other state wide restrictions to stop the spread of this rapidly spreading disease. Stay healthy all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Here in Western PA, our PIAA baseball chapter have set Varsity games at $75-80, JV - $55-60, Middle School at $50. Did Fall High School varsity games at $60-65 per game.
  14. SAD, If it is true, their lives are screwed, no pun entended here. Sex Offender's list for years to come. People need to think twice, three times before doing this kind of activity.
  15. No runs score due to the runner at first is forced out at second base. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I already took advantage of the free credit ID protection. Changed passwords as well. Ran a report after setting up the free credit ID protection and so far nothing seems to be fraudulent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Looks like the security breach is for accounts that have arbiterpay. I called Arbitersports and this is what I was told. Makes sense when some did not get an alert while some did. The officials in my chapter who did not use arbiterpay did not receive an alert. I have since deleted my arbiterpay account. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Agree. Halfway between 1B and HP while in foul territory a good 10 ft. Just read the play and follow the ball. We pregamed it. 1B covering HP, HP ump from behind mound has all bases unless I call him off at 1B. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I did balls and strikes from behind the mound the past weekend and found the most difficult calls were the high strikes/balls. Low strikes / balls were too bad. Just watched how the catcher fought the ball. If it ball was stuck instead of palm up it was a strike, palm up it was a ball. As far as U1. No runners or runner on 1B, normal A position. “Plate” ump had 2B and 3B. Runner on 2B, cheated about 10 ft in front of 1B in foul territory. runner on 3B was half way to HP in foul territory. Was able to get to home if needed and was able to make call at 1B by reading the play. All of this was in foul territory. Had excellent view of foot pulls at first base and was 3B extended on calls at home. Worked for me and did not miss a call all weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Got about 40 games in since middle of June. Already scheduled for 20 games for the Fall tournament season. Will be down about 50% this year but not complaining. Thought no ball was going to be played here in Western PA earlier in the season. Actually Saturday will be the first time calling from behind the mound. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Do what you want. For the young/new guys to the art of umpiring, I strongly suggest reading a baseball case book. This will cover many game situations and explanations what the correct rulings are. This way, you will at least seen it in print and have a recollection of what the rulings were. I am not saying it is a must, but a recommended action to get better. This way you will not have n a$$ of a coach on your case. Believe me, if the coaches(rats) sense you lack knowledge of the rules and game management, they will take advantage of you / ride you from the start. You are better off being prepared than going in to a game green behind the ears. The coaches know what they can get away with, stop them before it starts.
  22. That is where you needed to take a step back and open a rule book and start reading cover to cover, not a MLB book, but a LL rule book. I know what you went thru and hope you have made good strides to get better and gain a better knowledge of the game's rules. I always thought that playing the game was a good starting pointing, but quickly learned that this was only the playing part of the rules. I thought that since I played D1 baseball, I knew all there was to know about the game. I was grossly mistaking. That was only the tip of the knowledge. So to make my suggestion to all the newbies, read, read, read and never stop reading the rule books, online sessions, online sites like this one. It will only make you better and you will feel better for it.
  23. Home team is the official book. Both teams should have been checking pitch counts every inning so it did not come to this. Umpire is not in charge of pitch counts. Unless it was agreed upon before game started so the “books do not get cooked”, home team is official books. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
