  1. One man games around here are few and far between, actually practically non-existent... it is a VERY rare occaision to see a one man game on your schedule. MSHSAA has all but mandated there be 2 umpires for all levels freshman to varsity (varsity requires 2) when I say all but mandated i mean that if you don't have 2 umpires you don't play 99% of the time. This has become a big issue for whatever reason, but hey, i'm not complaining...
  2. With all due respect, I'm curious how long you've held this opinion. The 2013 version of ourUltimates are made in the USA by the same company making our Poly-Wool's. That was not the case in past years, and the improvement is significant. The color is more consistent, the hardware is a better grade, the base patterns the same, and the general worksmanship much better. Do they match the overall quality of our Poly-Wools? No, but you simply can't duplicate the feel of poly/wool in a 100% poly fabric. But they're certainly a much improved option compared to previous versions. ~Aaron Honig's Whislte Stop Aaron, didn't mean to bad mouth the brand, I haven't seen the 2013 model so I have based my opinion on the old model. I am interested to see them. I a die hard honigs guy all the way the quality of your uniforms is head and shoulders above the rest. I look forward to seeing the new ultimates, although I wont be purchasing any, I've worn poly wools for 4 years now and won't go back. Again didn't mean any disrespect by my comment just giving my opinion.
  3. i understand this, but he may not know what he has, especially since he says it is brand new with tags and it clearly is not brand new with tags. Again the only thing I want to know is if nike made a steel mask in the same design as the titanium, this would answer the question sufficiently.
  4. before or after the all star break? before or after the 7th inning stretch? But seriously, i'm charging a trip in OBR so long as the trip is not "brief" in my judgment, more or less he had better be handing him the baseball saying a word or 2 before walking away from the pitcher, any prolonged conversation is going to be charged as a trip. PBUC manual clearly states that the managers trip starts the moment he crosses the foul line to talk to the pitcher and that any attempt to circumvent this rule shall be charged as a trip.
  5. what rule set are you playing FED or OBR?
  6. of course I would sandblast the coating off the mask before wearing it if it in fact is titanium, i know the mask is not new, you can clearly see the mask has been used. And yes the mask is either painted or coated green. The question is does anybody know if nike made a steel version of the titanium that we all know and love. I've seen other nike 2 piece catchers masks that look nothing like the titanium,...
  7. The ultimates are for lack of a better word, d0g$hi+. i've seen many of them fade after one or two games. The color does not match the polywools and the material has a funny feel to them, there is no comparison between the two...
  8. However, at a recent Wendelstedt Clinic in Palm Springs, I was introduced to the concept of keying off the Catcher's Inside Shoulder as another indicator to help get in the most probable proper position to see a tag play at HP. The Inside Shoulder is defined as the shoulder closest to the foul line. So, if F2 is receiving the throw while standing in the imaginary box, then the Inside Shoulder would be F2's left shoulder. Generally, PU would start at Point of Plate then adjust to F2 by aligning his nose and belt buckle with F2's left (Inside) shoulder in this scenario. As F2 receives the throw F2 might rotate CCW for a swipe tag, or F2 might step left across the 3BL and square to 3B to meet the runner. In either case, staying on the Inside Shoulder, PU would rotate CCW (with F2's Inside Shoulder) to 3BLX for the swipe or shift left (with F2's Inside Shoulder) toward 1BLX for the collision. Further, as the tag becomes imminent a "wedge" is created between the runner and F2's inside shoulder, the point of which becomes the most likely location of the tag. If PU works to see this "wedge" he stands a very good chance of being in the best position to see the tag. The concept still applies if F2 were to initiate the tag attempt from Foul Territory. The results are pretty much the same. A spot near 3BLX becomes the final position for PU most of the time. That doesn't change. But for me, Keying off the Inside Shoulder is a more intuitive way of anticipating the best position, rather than keying off the origin of the throw. Evans also recognizes this cue in his instructions " adjust so that he can see the receiving side of the mitt. " I have not seen "Inside Shoulder" discussed before and I found it very helpful when added to the list of things to key off of when positioning for tag plays. What think? Not to get off topic here, but I believe that is Brent Rice on the stick in both of those videos, looks like he had a great look at both plays
  9. good thinking, Fitts where are you at?
  10. i've said it once and I'll say it again, no i'm not going to let them throw baseballs around the infield or warm up during the plate meeting, but i'm not going to go nitpicking if they are standing within the confines of the dugout or having a huddle outside the dugout. The same goes for the eye black bull that FED is wanting us to start nitpicking. They say it looks "intimidating", I'm sorry but if you are intimidated by eye black you probably aren't going to make it very far in baseball or life for that matter...
  11. ok so probably not a titanium? i'm really just curious because if it is, in fact, titanium under the paint then this would be a steal...
  12. The pitcher can turn to check runners in the set or the stretch so long as you don't determine that such motion was a feint towards first, typically if this turning action is in a "jerky" type of motion i will call it a balk as a feint without stepping, any other time just turning his shoulders, in obr, I don't balk since this is not, in my judgement, a feint to a base. Under FED you have to balk this when he is in his set position since turning his shoulders from the set position is defined as a balk in FED.BTW my interp of turning the shoulders and not feinting to a base from set or stretch came from Wendelstedt and PBUC. I agree with what you say. That's why I added arm motion. Sorry, read your post a little wrong, thought you were giving two separate situations there. If you could tell I was NOT an english major in college....
  13. Bought mine from ump-attire, not really by choice but i needed them fast and couldn't get a hold of all star directly... If you can get a hold of all star directly you can save a couple bucks on the harness. And I'm 6' 3" 165 and the straps on the harness fit me just fine, but they are extended about as far as I would like to go, so you may want to have an inch or 6 sewn on to the ends of the straps so that you can "lock" the straps down a little better...
  14. There is a nike mask on ebay, looks to be the same design as the titanium but I've not seen any nike titanium's factory painted any color let alone green... Can anyone confirm that this is titanium? If it is then it is a deal for a nike titanium... (Naturally I would have it media blasted and powder coated...) http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-NIKE-CATCHERS-MASK-GREEN-/271210369809?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f2565d311

  16. In which case wouldn't that make the bat part of the hands? That is the paradox here....
  17. Hey, hey, easy on my NB. I actually never had a slipping problem. Every tim i've worn my New Balance, since I got my reeboks, I've ate err... uhh... manuere(sp?)
  18. yes it will work, you may have to modify the top and or bottom straps to make them long enough, I'm a skinny guy so i didn't have to on my cps, but it will work. I highly recommend this modification to any chest protector, especially wilson chest protectors as we all know the biggest, if not only, fault on these cps is the harness. I've done it to both my gold and platinum and absolutely love it!
  19. if u have the cash go with poly wools, if you don't have the money, save up till you have enough for the poly wools, they last forever if you take care of them properly, and look amazing every time you walk on a baseball field.
  20. exactly why i don't wear new balance plate shoes, I can never get my footing, this is pretty hilarious though.
  21. read the op, pretty sure i Have ball bags on there...
  22. looks kinda like the old 996s with the silver N, i have a pair of em... they were only available to the MLB guys in mid, kind of like the NB 950s in black and white in mid....
  23. Here is why they must come set in one continuous motion, the pitcher starting to come set and stopping CAN be interpreted (I say can because others will have different interpretations) as a feinted pitch, he made a motion naturally associated with his pitch (don't have OBR next to me to give you a rules reference) when he then replaced his foot on the ground and leaned back in towards the plate. I would never give an interpretation such as that to a coach or manager because that I just MY interpretation and not an official interpretation. The only explanation I would give in this situation is that he started and stopped, which is kind of a catch all for not coming set in one continuous motion and making a motion naturally associated with his pitch and failing to deliver a pitch to the batter. And FYI there are many ways to balk before coming set, I.E. attempting to retire a runner without first stepping off the rubber or stepping directly to such base (seen often at lower levels).
  24. I've got a start and stop balk here, if he is just adjusting his front foot he doesn't need to start to come upright with hsi body, i can see in my head exactly what I think you're talking about and sounds to me like a start and stop balk, but i could be wrong...
  25. I guess to each their own, but i've never had a problem with honigs communicating with me about my orders. Yes their website is a bit dated and could use an update but that comes when you deal with a company who has the tried and true philosophy. As to the uniform issues with honigs, ever since 2011 when they first stopped selling the pakistani shirts their uniforms have been head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion, perfect balance between breathe-ability and not being "see through" as other breathable shirts i have experience with are.
