I would recommend Jaksa/Roder's "The Rules of Professional Baseball: A Comprehensive Reorganization and Clarification". It breaks down the OBR book into laymans terms with excellent examples/situations. It also details the rules differences between MLB, NCAA, and NFHS. Everything I've read about learning the rules have recommended learning the OBR first, then focusing on the differences in whatever level you call.

I hope none of their charades have entered my subconscience and made a home. Like LMSANS said, that's 3:20 of my life I'll never get back. Just my $0.02...

[be careful with that "e" word. You're an independent contractor. If the DOL (state or fed) thinks otherwise because someone used the "e" word there will be he__ to pay!

I had a great time. I always do...it was my fourth consecutive trip. First with a team sponsor, though. Yes, the Willy and Sam show are impressive. Amish is doing fine. I got the glare when I dropped an F-bomb in front of him. I usually get one or two a year. I get along with him quite well so he just looks at me and says "hey"... Contrary to what some people think of him, he's actually a really nice guy who means well and is there for the right reasons... the kids. I spent a week there but only know guys by their given names and where they're from. I'm relatively new out here, so, I asked the general question. I asked my crew. barrick mates, and some of the other guys in our group if they are on Umpire-Empire and nobody heard of this site (which I find incredibly hard to believe). So, I spread the word about this site. Hopefully, the membership will grow based on my suggestions to check it out and look into it.

Anybody else at CDP for Week #7? If so, where did you bunk...what team were you with (if any), what diamond were you on, etc. I was there with the Line Drive Pirates. My bunk was 41A and my scheduled diamond was #4.

I got what I see when my eyes are closed...nothing. Except, now, the Batter has an 0-1 count and the Runner is now on 2nd Base.

I've worn a WV Platinum CP for 3 years now. I love it. One of the things I tell people who ask me about my CP is that when I get hit, I hear it, I don't feel it. I work everything from 12U Fed to Men's Adult leagues. I've taken my fair share of hits but not once have I had any pain as a result.

I work for two primary Associations... 1) Michigan Assignors - High School (V, JV, & F) 2) Macomb Elite Umpires Association ("MEUA") - Federation Ball (9U - 18U) I live in St. Clair Shores and work games in Macomb County. Jeff

Wow! There goes 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I'm sure Cactus has thick skin (no pun intended) to take all the abuse he must get. Every pre-game conference I have with the coaches includes the following: "there are six things we will neither hear about nor discuss...ball/strike, fair/foul, safe/out". Most coaches, in my experience, understand what that means. Those that don't usually end up watching the game from the parking lot.

Just wanting to introduce myself to the group. My name is Jeff, I'm 49 years old, and I'm from St. Clair Shores, Michigan (Northeast suburb of Detroit). I've been umpiring for 8 years, collectively. I started in high school then stopped and recently picked it back up 3 years ago. I primarily work high school and Federation (12U - 18U) games with a few MABL (Men's Adult Baseball League) games sprinkled in. I haven't umpired yet this season due to hip replacement surgery in early April but I've been choming at the bit big time!! I have my first game on Thursday, so, I'm hoping it goes well. Anyway, I look forward to becoming an active participant out here on Umpire-Empire! Jeff
