I am assuming that because F3 is playing in, R1 is behind him/her. If that is the case, when the batted ball passed F3 and hit R1, and there is no other fielder who could have made a play on the batted ball (assuming F4 couldn't have made a play on the ball), the ball is live. BR is credited with a double, R3 and R2 score, and the HT wins by one run.

I will never have to answer any of these questions. I do not touch any catcher whom is working in front of me no matter how bad he is (or she, for that matter. I had a female catcher work in front of me once.).

Thats an understatement. CDP ballparks are, what, 20 minutes outside of town? It's about a 10 minute drive from Milford (where CDP is located) to Cooperstown. Highway 28 takes you directly into town. I'll be there Week 7.

I have a job...corporate accounting...which gives me between 50-60 hours of aggrevation, frustration, consternation, and anything else that ends in -tion per week! I find that once I get on the field, all those "work" issues drift away. Baseball is my passion AND my refuge. It seems to make everything right again for me. I have felt the same way about finding it difficult to get back into it. But, once you're in the saddle, it's like riding a bike. The rules, Hell, you know the rules. It will all come back to you like a long, lost friend!

Damn! All this talk of pro school and I'm seriously jonsing to go. Of course, being 50 years young, I won't be vying for a job but that wouldn't prevent me from getting the most out of the school and myself. I'm probably going to go in 2014. Just have to decide which one. I'm going to the week-long Evans camp this year between Christmas and New Years. So, I'm really looking forward to that. But, as I said, I will be going to a 5-week in 2014. I'm REALLY looking forward to that!!

I'd like to believe that the umpire kneeling is simply directing the call to his partner standing up signaling "SAFE". However, I find that somewhat challenging to do. I'm going to guess that both managers came out to see just what the H*ll was going on. :question1:

Nick Lentz is the HP in this picture. He's an instructor at the camp I attend each Winter. He's a great guy and a great umpire!!

Jeff..You are entitled to your opinion and perceptions as well. However, consider this. It didn't start with amature umpires, it started with professional umpires many years ago, long before you and I were born. Have you ever seen a professional umpire from years long past wear blue? Forest, I concede that I haven't considered the origin coming from times long ago. I've been in the game only a moment considering this game has been around for hundreds OF years. True, it may have stemmed from a 'blown' call or he 'blew' a call. I'm just having a difficult time connecting the dots...calling someone a verb is perplexing to me...especially, in this context. It has a bit OF non-sequitur-ism to it, in my opinion. Anyway, the long and short OF it is that I don't take offence to being called 'Blue', 'Bleu', or 'Blew'. Like someone mentioned above, the people using the term have absolutely no idea where it originated. I'm guessing they're as ignorant as me considering I have read, and believed, that it was due to the color OF our jerseys.

BTW. Calling you "Blue" does not refer to the color of your shirt. Can you imagine some coach calling you "Cream"? It derives from when the fans called the umpire "Blue" because they perceived he blew the call. With that in mind, it is derogatory. I TOTALLY disagree. I've read countless articles where the common denominator, from where the term comes from, is the color of the jerseys umpires (specifically amateur umpires) wear. If you think otherwise, Forest, well, you think otherwise. You're entitled to your opinion...and your perceptions. I liken the term "blue" to the terms "ref" and "ump". Nothing I take as disrespect...even if they know my name.

I know what you mean Dix. I almost broke out my jacket for my third plate on Saturday, but decided I would have been too hot, so I stuck with the short sleeves. It really sucks that there are no more tournies until January 7th. I may have to try and pick up a scrimmage during the holidays so I don't go into withdrawl. If I didn't like your posts and replys as much as I do, and being a snow-bird, I would have had to reply to this in such a way that I surely would have gotten ejected!!! But, instead, I'll just say that I'm one of the envious ones that would love to have your baseball season.

celt62... Not to get off topic, but, I'm guessing that the depiction of your avatar has been met with some resistance from more than just a few New Yorkers.

I'm looking for some direction on how to properly clean the padding of my WV Platinum CP. I know the plates can be removed from the padding. My question is this: can I run the padding through my washing machine (and even the dryer)? It's starting to get a little "crusty" and I need to clean/wash it. Looking for ways Platinum owners clean their CP. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance... Jeff

One of the first books on umpiring I read. I've since read it three times. There was something to be learned each time I read it. It is definitely a must-read!!
