  1. I've seen MLB players do this. It's legit. I know it's legit...I guess it was more of a, "how is this different" question. I just hadn't refreshed the page since yesterday and didn't realize the post before mine had the same example.
  2. What if it were the other way around and it was 2 strikes and he took a swing at a wild pitch to get the uncaught 3rd strike? Again, absolutely no intent to hit the ball. *Guess I should refresh my screen from last night before posting ^^^^ :smachhead: :smachhead:
  3. Maybe it's better the picture won't open for me...it's probably me!

    Dear Diary

Ha, was wondering if anyone else noticed that!
  5. I have a 4 man county championship game tonight...and my mind is going to be on how dirty my base is. My mind is made up! I will have the cleanest base on the field!!! I pity the fool who gets it dirty!
  6. You really can't assume the immediately. Suppose the winning run appeared to score on a SF. If the game was immediately over you wouldn't be able to appeal that he left early. interesting point This is like the chicken and the egg...did the winning run score if he left early?

    Balk explanation?

I've had a ton of young pitchers lately not coming to a stop...so much that I've started doubting myself. Funny thing is, only one rat has noticed it. I could almost never call it, but I know the kids are going to get nailed on it later if they don't learn it now. Although one kid I've had several games with does it every game. :shakehead:
  8. I think I'd be very confused if a catcher wanted me to appeal this...I might have to tell him, "You're right, he didn't go..." and call it a ball I can't imagine them wanting to give up a strike...
  9. Wouldn't you love to say, "Well they thought it would be funny to have the worst team and umpire on the field together!"?
  10. Got my plate shoes yesterday! (For once having small feet comes in handy!!!
  11. Back in the day when I coached, we had to perpetuate this myth...for the fear of the one umpire who might believe it! Trust me, I've seen it a few times. (Ok, so we just taught them to turn to the right, but now I wonder how many of them thought it was rule?)
  12. See the advertising power of this site?
  13. I think he meant this day...
  14. As long as F1 throws to the base at 1B only, it is not a balk. If he throws to F3, then F3 better be at the base or have a legitimate chance to retire a runner. But, he doesn't have to actually retire a runner. Ok, thanks! I booted one...F3 was playing about 10 feet off the base about even with the runner and the pitcher threw to the bag. In this league it was a warning for the balk, but it still irks me that I missed it.
  15. Guess they'll boycott the site?!?!:P
  16. So, if he throws to 1st and no one is there it's not I balk? I may have blown this one earlier in the year. :crybaby2:
  17. I can't tell on my pc...just my inexperience. Here's what it says - Wilson Face Mask Size 9 1/2" Color(s): Black Lining: Synthetic Material: Solid Wire Velcro adjustments
  18. Not mine, not did I bid - http://cgi.ebay.com/WILSON-Umpire-Protective-Gear-FULL-SET-/190555383791?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5dfc67ef Thought someone might benefit. There are no bids so I hope I didn't cut someone out.
  19. Majordave, are you from that area? My son played for Amelia and they had a couple of games there. Had a nice David and Goliath memory there in tournamants his senior year.
  20. I'd have a tough time turning down $40 even for T-ball...heck, that has to be the easiest $40 a person could earn even if you are bored half to death! Our organization needs to up our pay!!!:crybaby2:
  21. "For the umpty-umpth time, the official rule (6.05j) states that in such situations the umpire should call the runner "safe". " Am I looking in the wrong place? I just see this - (j) After a third strike or after he hits a fair ball, he or first base is tagged before he touches first base; From OBR
  22. I'm going to guess if an appeal was made and the it's not upheld?
  23. I've heard the Ultimates run small, is that the case?
  24. Maybe we should start wearing the forearm armor some of the batters wear?
  25. Had a night of close calls last night on the bases. Saw all sorts of ways not to make a tag...glove stuck in the dirt, late tags etc. I was really hustling as this team had just had a BU that just would not move to get in position. Of course, late in the game I have a kid stealing 2nd and I am in great postion, but the throw was off and puts the runner's body between me and the tag. I see no evidence that the tag was missed, no retag attempt so I bang the runner out. Up he comes, "He didn't tag me!" I didn't see the tag, but I didn't see anything to make me think he missed. Grrr, I really felt like I was in the right spot for 95% of the plays that could have happened.
