  1. Jerry Layne, Hunter Of course.. and maybe my favorite Umpire Ed Hickox... Eddie is a super good guy..very down to earth.
  2. I wish I were young enough, and good enough to get peed on. How old are you?
  3. The guy in the middle of the pic is the Chef Instructor at Harry's.. great great guy.
  4. 3 of those guys are Instructors..at Harry's...Congrats
  5. If there is no Fair or Foul decision to be made then you do not need to say "If fair"
  6. Hey guys the Poly wools are on sale right now almost $10 off normal price.
  7. I did this and ripped my poly wools...LOL
  8. Well this doesn't apply here either,a s it is not a thrown or batted ball....
  9. Chris you missed that one.... It is INT and the 1st base coach is EJ.. but only if a night game..LOL
  10. Detached equipment is only on the defense... the batter did not intentionally take off his helmet, so you can't call INT on that.. the ball is not lodged into the catcher or Umpires equipment so there is no base award for that..Back swing INT only applies when a bat strikes the catcher. I'm using 9.01c and leaving the runner at 2nd, but i am not ruling it our of play.. The Umpire left the Runner at 2nd.. and neither coach said a word...I have talked to bunch of people and we all agree pretty much what I posted.. Leave Runner at 2nd, and keep the ball live.. since the batter did not take the helmet off intentionally, there really is nothing...LOL
  11. +1 and read/watch the catchers glove for help.
  12. Fun one..... No out. R1. Batter has a 0-0 count. Pitch pitches the ball. Batter swings and misses, but swings so hard that his helmet comes off. It eventually comes to rest upside down, between the batter's box and home plate. Catcher doesn't catch the ball. It pops out of his glove and goes straight up above his head. R1, seeing this, breaks for second. When the ball comes down, it goes inside the Batters helmet. Catcher tries to get the ball out of the batting helmet to retire R1 at second base as the Batter also reaches for his helmet. They don't make contact, but Batter backs away and looks at Umpire.
  13. This play happen to a Umpire buddy of mine.. no one on, base hit down the right field line. the right fielder gains possession of the ball and crashes into a gate (which was suppose to be locked) the gate opens and the fielder is now in dead ball territory. The runner was past first and almost to 2nd. from dead ball territory he plays the ball and throws it back into the field of play attempting to retire the BR at 3rd. the runner advanced safely to 3rd. defensive manager says its a 2 base award. we ended up leaving him at 3rd after initially having him return to 2nd. The major questions are can he play a ball while in dead ball territory? If not is it a 2 base award from the time the ball went into dead ball territory? is the ball dead ? I'm just lost, but I think we made the right ruling in the end.
  14. Not being on the inside, I do not have your official list and can only use the box scores from opening night. There could be local fill-ins that I would obviously not know. Serveral Leagues opened on different dates and some opening day names are different from last night. Sorry 6/21 Arizona League Dodgers vs Brewers---HP Richard Tucker; 1B Williams, III---Taylor Grace was opening day 6/20 rather than Tucker and could be a local that I alluded to unless they are carrying extra. NOT fill in these guys have Jobs.. Appy- Opening day 6/21 are above, but there could be fill-ins if some contract MiLB are not there. GCL Opening day above is as listed 6/21 saw Tim Hromada, Sam Vogt---and Nick Garvey that missed opening day----------Jeremy Rehak, Scooter Morrison, and Ryan Wills are extra or fill-ins...these guys are regulars too.. just didnt work opening night.. Jeremy is a good buddy of mine. NY Penn Alex Tolfi is now working instead of Jason Visconti who opened up...ly league....Actually his last name is Tosi..LOL i thought it was funny they miss spelled it...LOL Jasen got moved to the Sally league CPL is from the web page but may not be current Obviously Vogt, Garvey, and Freed have moved up to GCL Since main page has not been updated, I will have to use box scores. They had been matching up until recently when some moves were probably made. I'm working on the final accuracy and will probably have to update, especially if some have left at the half-way point. This was the best I could do since the short season just opened and thought I would get it out there. There are a few guys on the list that will wash out in a few days.. but it is a pretty accurate list...LOL
  15. Not true... NCAA Rule: 8-2-d(2) If the batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball and the pitch is out of the strike zone, the pitch shall be called a ball. The ball is dead, no runners may advance and the batter is not awarded first base unless the pitch is ball four. I see someone forgot to put the rest of the rule in there...LOL
  16. AS SOOn as the Catcher Initial throw does not retire the runner.."time is called" and called the batter out and return the runner back to his base at TOP. Mazz, we are agreeing, what do you have on the slide by and a second tag. BI or out? Im with you.. the initial throw didnt get the runner...but you can sell it cause the runner is out.. it will depend on how well you can sell it....LOL
  17. AS SOOn as the Catcher Initial throw does not retire the runner.."time is called" and called the batter out and return the runner back to his base at TOP. This was my point. If you have followed through on the mechanics of things, the INT is already out of your mouth, and TIME is being called. It's gonna be much easier to return R1 and ding the B1 if I've just followed the mechanics. If it becomes apparent that he was out by a wide margin and it was on that Initial throw, it's even easier to explain. If you wait to call Time and announce the INT, your just begging for a sh*tstorm. No you do not call time, you have to let the catcher try to retire R1... the proper mechanic is... "signal the swinging strike, call the INT, and come out from behind HP to see if R1 is out or safe, If safe call time, say " I have INT, you ( pointing at the batter) your out, you ( pointing at R1) back to 1st.
  18. Mike clear out your In BOX...LOL
  19. well since I might be going to the CPL very soon.. I will tell you, that us Umpires have no idea about the agreement with the league and PBUC, we jsut work games were we are told. The umpires are working the games trying to get to the next level Minor league baseball. We get a hotel in the same city that we are working in, and then the next day get up and drive tot the next city we are working in. Sometimes there are over nights Or we stay in the same city 2 night in a row. Most of us dont care about the money, we are chasing a dream..
  20. your list is almost accurate... it is missing a few people.. we have had some guy s "hang it up" and some others get released... your CPL list is off, and the AZL, Gulf Roast , and Appy, and NY-Penn are off....
  21. No.. if a rundown occurs the PU NEEDS to call "time" and enforce the BI ....
  22. AS SOOn as the Catcher Initial throw does not retire the runner.."time is called" and called the batter out and return the runner back to his base at TOP.
  23. I bought the new rule book, about a month ago..LOL about time they updated it online.
  24. Living in Southern Mississippi and umpiring here and in NewOrleans area, it is very hot and humid.... I will tell you about a Florida water, if you dont use this your missing out.. you can buy it at Walgreens, and you mix it in a small cooler with ice and water and florida water.. you can't drink it.. you mix it and put a towel in the cooler, it works wonders, it will instantly cool you..you will see Umpires are the CWS using it.. I had used it one weekend and it was 97* and the Humidity made it over a 110* we put it in the cooler around 830 and at 515 pm, the smae ice we used was still very Ice cold... this stuff is great. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Water
  25. Not sure who said who said that the batter is entitled to his batters box is wrong, a batter can still interfere with a catcher while in the box... I will say i do not think this is BI, as the catcher had to catch a pitch that was way inside..
