I believe he asked for Glue Advice and not New Mask advice...Nothing like turning a $7 bottle of glue into a $150 new mask! Nothing like taking a piece of crap mask and turning it into a Doctor Bill for a Concussion.
-
Tip Get a AllStar HSM that has replaceable pads, held in by velcro and is a better mask to begin with.

They have the choice to use residency or school for the league they want to play in now. Do you really think Little League cares about HS Team Picture!!!! Her in Calif if you play HS Ball, your not allowed to play any other ball till your season is over. Primary reason we start Seniors and Big League late and push hard to get 15 games in before the post season tournaments begin.

I call BS i dont really see how this is possible I called nearly every weekend you did and I know you took several weekends off or were TD for the weekend and didnt call much. Plus we had pretty much all of August off at TCA. I only did 345 games I can see if maybe you did 450 or maybe even 500 but I cant see how you did 623 games. Calling games every week night plus AAYBA helped get my game count back up. That was two weeks straight of 6-7 games a day for 6 days both weeks. That was 77 games alone in just a 2 week span. I also had 43 high school games not including summer ball or MIckey Mantel. Most of the games I got were in the spring when I wasn't doing much TD work. I was calling 8 games on saturday and 7-8 on Sunday every weekend. Trey did even more than I did. He got close to the 800 mark. You must be Superman. 6-7 games a day would be like 14 hours a day for 2 weeks??????? I don't think I have ever meet someone that can work a schedule like that and provide quality umpiring. Must be nice to be so young. Hope you have a good investment adviser to help make all that money your making work for you. I guess there is a new term to use instead of Game Whore. Game S L U T!!!!! It's my full time job I have to do that many games to get by. Trust me I'm not making that much money at all when you consider it's not a secondary job for a little side cash. The two weeks of baseball all day had a week off in between. I can assure you that the quality of umpiring doesn't suffer because of the number of games I do. I actually think I could probably squeeze in another game or 2 on those long days before I started to suffer from it. I guess that's where I have a problem with that approach...........your statement is that you could do more games before you start to suffer..........and I am assuring you that whether you believe it or not, it would be impossible for the quality of that many games to remain high if umpired by the same man..... I also have to agree. You can not seriously say the quality of your umpiring is the same in game six as game one. I do not believe you could even be your best quality on and day after that. I have been there and done that and have worked with others who done it. Your performance starts to degrade after the 2nd game on the first day. What I find remarkable is the fact you got through that many games with out a good injury. The next time I visit a Emergency Room or Urgent Care, the wife will be posting my gear for sale on here. I have been lucky this year with no visits. Last injury was Oct 2011.

Game count is important if you are making your living as a Professional Umpire, umpiring Amateur Baseball. More games equals more money. Doesn't necessarily make you a better umpire but sure the heck means you are a Good Umpire since numerous Assignors and others keep calling and assigning you games. So game count equals food on my table and money in my pocket. Being a Better Umpire is relevant to your goals as a umpire. I don't need nor do I desire to work any higher levels then I work. With my game count and the demand for me to work by Assignors, I don't need to get any better.

I have to ask how that is possible also? After this coming weekend I will reach 294 for the year. I have been close to 300 per year for the last 4 years and I work full time umpiring. Between March and August I have gone over a month without a night or day off and still could never see being able to work that many in any year. I am sorry but just can't see how that is possible time wise, physically or mentally.
-
I can't get any better, so I will just keep trying to reach Game 300 for 2014 before the year ends. I have no desire to work any higher levels or impress anyone to move up. Happy with the games and income I get now.

My only question would be cost effectiveness? What does it cost to have it done? What does it cost to buy another mask? I don't see it being that cost effective.

After reading through this whole thread, I will answer: most definitely. Just sayin'. Second the most definitely violation the law. The law says you can not copy it without permission, PERIOD. Now you have even posted it on the internet and are in the process of shipping it back and forth State Lines. MLB doesn't have to spend a dime to prosecute. It is a Federal case and all it takes is some Federal Prosecutor to pick it up and file a case. You are a evil pirate.... RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Big No NO!!!!!!!!! Umpire and stay out of coaching. State why the Balk was called. Never SHOW. If I was a coach and you showed my F1 why he Balked I would tell you to do your job and stay out of mine.

But what about when your partner bangs a runner out, with his mask in his right hand ?? believe it or not guys, this happened. It does happen and will happen again. No one is "PERFECT".

It will all depend on the rest of your Board. If they do not support Umpires it may not be very much fun. I would never accept any position on a LL Board again. Congrats and hope it works for you.

Penance, Lessons Learned, and Other Observations
semper_fi_72 replied to bluejerred's topic in Free For All
Very true. I have talked to experienced coaches after a game and asked them what their observations were. I really don't have a choice since I have no mentors and need every possible resource to get better. They tell me the good with the bad and try to learn from it. Big Mistake here. Never listen to a coaches evaluation of your performance, good or bad. They are coaches, not umpires. The only opinion that will matter to make you better is a more experienced umpire. -
Busy Day At The Field - First Ejection Ever!!

My only question is why was He playing in a Girls Softball Game. -
Question from your Question? What new Pitcher? Coach has the ball, so what? Pitcher walked off the mound, So what and to where did he go? He could have stepped off the mound to tie his shoe. Did Coach announce a pitching change? You do not provide enough information to make a determination. I know what you're driving at, but in reality have you ever seen a manager take the ball and then the pitcher leaves where it wasn't a pitching change? In fact I have as recently as yesterday. Coach took the ball, F1 walked off the mound to the 1B line where another coach sprayed him down with a spray water bottle while the coach on the mound talked with the infield. F1 returned to the mound and game resumed without any delay.

Your statement that USSSA use this is to broad. You may use it but we do not in Southern California. In fact if a game ends in a Tie in Pool Play, it ends in a Tie. We only play Extra Innings in Playoffs.

So do you collect a simulated game fee also

What a Game Whore you are I did 4 and that was plenty with the humidity we have.

semper_fi_72 replied to bluejerred's topic in Free For All
$30 per game Yes you charged to little unless you are doing a Fund Raiser to help a team you really like. 16U we get $54 with a 2 hour time limit. You should have been getting around $40 You are also correct on their is no such thing as a Friendly Tournament at least from a Umpires aspect. Treat every game the same. Keep your Head and Ears inside the fences. Anyone outside the fence does not exist. -

I would gladly tell you if you sold out to cheap if you just post what you charged per game? 5 Games Solo is to many, especially in this weather we are having. I did 4 yesterday, 16U also, 2 Base then 2 Plate. It was to many to do in this Humidity. I really feel sorry for you guys that always work in Humidity!!!!!!!!!!
