Maybe it was Throwback Day in Arlington but instead of wearing old uniforms, the players (both teams) decided to pretend they were in LL again. Not only did Bautista (R2) try for third while it was occupied, notice later in the play R1 tried for second while Bautista was there. That went unmentioned in the coverage. It worked out for Toronto, but sloppy play by both teams.

Perhaps he got the call correct. Looks like the 3rd baseman pointed immediately after the tag that Reyes has pulled his hand off of the base. On replay it appears that he may have pulled it but hard to tell. If ump called out for pulling hand then good call. If out for ball and tag beating runner then I don't think so.

not sure what replays you were watching but there were plenty of angles clearly showing he never came off the bag ............ Reyes blocked him......has to be....

I think Reyes blocked him. When his hand moved and had kind of a funny looking adjustment, U3 might have thought that it was off and he was trying to get it back to the base. That would be my guess especially since Reyes was reaching back to the base.

Yes sir re buddie, you dag gum knew that I was going to back you up and agree with you on that statement. Of course for clarity, the number I should have typed, and was used when I grew up, was a googul, which somehow turned from a number into a company.

And this is not a help call- And yes MST, I know you and many others know it is not, but at the same time, many, many think it is. This is the same for those stretches at all the bases, even when they don't fall down.

The umpire is not too close (tunnel vision) to the play and has a great view. This is stricktly a judgment call as to whether the ball hits the glove and the foot is on the bag, or the ball hits the glove and the foot is off the bag.

Click on the beginning of he 5 second mark and you will see the foot is on the bag and the umpire has perfect positioning, not to close and not too far away. There is no need to abdicate his responsibility of making the "judgment" of the foot on the bag or not, by going for help. It does not matter that in the end the fielder ended up off the bag.

Of course this throw was wide and it was a judgment as to whether he was on the bag (just like where the ball is with relation to the line fair/foul, not where the feet of the fielder are) with his stretch or was he off the bag, it's where was he when the ball hit the glove.

Who is the help umpire for this anyway? The umpire 90 feet away at 1st or 3rd, or the home plate umpire at least 127 feet or more from the play?

What are they going to say, you'll never work our games again, if you don't get help. I will call the assignor and make sure. Are you going for help to get the heat off yourself and deflect it on your partner. Are you going to eject the manager if he now starts arguing with your partner's decision since it was your original call and your partner is taking the heat for it?

There is no need for help on this call. Let the manager argue and if he crosses the line eject him. Very simple.

I had this exact play yesterday, except that I was solo in this game. Kid hits a shot and I clear the catcher, run out to the right of the mound to watch the touch at first, go around to the working area to see the touch at second, and then take him to third and I am waiting at the cutout for the play. Head first slide, just before the ball gets there, then he overslides and his hand comes off as F5 is making the sweep tag - OUT!
