Is there such a thing as a close play?

I sold the gear and called it a career after the 2015 season, so it's been awhile since my credibility has been on the line. Today I was watching a game and I heard that old refrain I always heard on every whacker where some player, manager or fan disagreed with my call: "Jeez, blue, that wasn't even close!"
When I worked, every call was easy and I was either blind or incompetent. So that's the reason for my question: has the game changed at all and now there are some close plays?

Started doing some games with my 17 y/o son, after his HS season was over. On the drive home he asked me: "Dad, do you think I got that close play at 1st right?" And I replied "Welcome to umpiring!"

Are there any games where we don't go over a couple of calls in our minds later on wondering if we got them right? Maybe I'm the weird one. Maybe it shows we do care.

It's obvious to someone. But, obvious is not the same as correct.
