So I've watched a few games in this early season...and while it certainly could be the parallax effect, is anyone else noticing the PUs working out of the slot and more toward the apex of home plate?

Here's just one example from this weekend:

Yes, I noticed but I have no empirical data that says this is a trend or a particular small set of PUs.

My best guess is that there may be more catchers dropping to a knee (see image) exposing the PU to a greater chance of injury? So they go over the top? Don't know for sure. /STB

Maybe. And it is too early to call it a pattern. But I did see it in all of the games I watched this weekend. And I suppose I should clarify what I mean...umpires are definitely still working the slot, but they're not necessarily remaining in the slot when the catcher moves. They seem to be moving with F2...at least out to the apex of the plate.

Sunday night's umpire seemed to be in the slot. Anyone watch the KayRod broadcast on ESPN2? Real great umpcam for extended periods of play. Fun to watch.

This is a product of absolutely having to get pitches correct, having fully covered health insurance, and still being paid should they be injured and unable to work games. We have to protect ourselves in the amateur game.

Being a Rangers fan on top of that I enjoyed it a lot.

And the home plate umpire called an excellent game.

I understand and agree with this. They're already very good so it will be interesting to see if there's a statistically significant difference in overall accuracy.

Anyone notice how Pat Hoberg set up on his perfecto game?

No, but I just watched a bunch of MLB game highlights from yesterday, Hoberg being one of them.  I noticed a lot of movement from him as the pitch was coming in, and ... I did notice slight adjustments towards the center of the plate.  SLOT? Yes.  However, ... pushed 'in' a little more.   I saw others the same, moved in more than I remember.   Others were still stone cold SLOT, i.e.; Nic Lentz, Mike Michelinski to name a couple.

Hoberg attached on 2 different batters....

Chad Fairchild from the other night, (4 photos).  He's fine for the right handers, but look at his left handed hitter set up? WOW

All in all .... @johnnyg08 .... I can see what you've noticed.  Interesting.  And, ...look at Andy Fletcher (your original photo) ... another lefty.  Hmmmmm🤔
