The Downside to Higher Umpire Game Pay...

...I "get" to do a game solo on Sunday, full-size field.

I can already hear the coaches complaining about missed calls at 2B.

Here are today's ground rules, coach:

Anything that hits the fascia is out of play, even if it bounces back in.  It is behind the fence.

We're going pole to pole on the dugout openings.

Since I am working solo, we are not going to use second base.  Runners should just go across the field, first straight to third.

We do not have a safety base, so nothing to discuss there.

Dead ball territory for moms taking photos will extend at the end of the dugout.  Hotter moms can come further onto the field.

Any questions?  No?  Good.  Stay positive, have a good game, and let's play ball!

so 2 umpires for $50 a piece is now 1 umpire for 50-75.

should be $100 for double work.

where is the fairness in that.

guess fairness goes out the window.

We are so low on umpires, most off season is solo. I am working 3 on Sunday, 9 inning for $100/game... but this is going to be an awfully long day.

I've never understood that either.  I make 100% of the calls for 1.5 times the pay?!?!?!??  Why not 100% of calls for 100% of pay?

Thankfully living in the northern tier, the volume of baseball games more closely matches the number of umpires--we're still short up here though.

Because you are umpiring for two umpires, that means you are missing twice as many calls.

Look at this guy ... he's so bad nobody will work with him.  Get a partner Blue!  Geez.   😉

9 innings is going to cost you more than $100 with  a partner.  You must be a better man than me.
