ISO::: MLB Umpire Pants

Greetings, 

 

What pants are they using in the bigs? I'm still using my Honig's poly/wool from 2011-14. Going back to pro school next year. Being a graduate from Evans isn't that appealing anymore on my resume after they shut down.

Both of the Pro schools are in Florida, where it’s hot, humid, and bright, color-fading sunny skies. All three work against poly-wools. 

As such, I would recommend getting a set of either the Davis-by-Fechheimer Poly-spandex pants or the Smitty Poly-spandex just before you depart for school. These two brands have the deep charcoal color the Pros use. By getting them within days or a week of classes starting, they’ll look “perfect”, devoid of fading or bruises... which we all tend to get working soooo many games. I actually keep a set of Smitty poly-spandex pants at the back of the closet, and only bring them out to use them for sanctioned games (actual college, high-end high school, Minor League, etc.) at night. 

Otherwise, I do have a set of Honig’s poly-spandex (they call it 4-way stretch), and I love using them here in Arizona – they’re thinner and lighter weight than the other brands, but they have a mottled, heather appearance to them. Still charcoal, but noticeably not the same as other brands. I use them for everything “common” or routine day in and day out. As such, I’ll be getting another set upon returning from the road in September. 

My old Smitty poly-spandex pants? Those get relegated to doing those sun-&-dust-&-ball-beaten days of tournament baseball.

So what brand are they using in the bigs? I’ve worked one year in the Gulf Cost League, so I’m aware of the weather. Just looking to see which pants are being used now. Haven’t had any responses from my MiLB contacts.

According the UA link for MiLB umpires to buy equipment it looks like Smitty is being used there.... @JimKirk do you know if it is the same for MLB?

I'll have to give these a shot. I'm still rocking old school Honig's poly wools but I will need new pants soon.

Mlb guys are wearing the Fechheimer poly spandex.  They are very very close to the Fechheimer poly spandex that Davis sells (the only difference I’m aware of is that the MLB plate pants have the double stitched seat while the ones GD sells to the public doesn’t). I assume it’s a cost issue.

I’m tired of Smitty.  Get the Fechs.  Davis has a bunch of promo codes.
