Just wondering if there has ever been a study of Major League umpire's personality make up?
My opinion takes a very "strong" personality   Type "A"?

Anyone at the highest level of their profession is more likely to be a Type A

Once upon a time I was a certified Predictive Index Analyst. And I thought of asking my friends who work work the highest levels of baseball to take the survey. I wanted to see if my preformed beliefs were accurate on umpires personality characteristics. I never did that. :(

Over the years, I have been in a number of associations covering a good swath of competitive baseball.........of those memberships, I feel type A's vastly dominated.....(not always for the best.)  I have seen many people come and go and to stick with it, one of the prerequisites seemed to be a good "sense of self".

  1. Definition of Sense of Self. In psychology, the sense of self is defined as the way a person thinks about and views his or her traits, beliefs, and purpose within the world.

No, since Type A isn't a personality. It's a purported collection of traits.

Shall we all take our DiSC profile while we're at it? Maybe Myers-Briggs?

All of those tests put me as a very introverted, analytical person who hates conflict. But all of those tests will also remind you that your personality will change in different situations and environments. While I agree that many officials appear to be Type-As, or high Ds (not THAT D!), or ENTJs, it doesn't mean that's how they are away from the field.
