I sewed mine to the bottom pad yesterday. Much better. Now they wrap around my body and don't pop forward on top of the shoulder pad.

Mr ump you sewed the gold or platinum?

The Gold Retro.....took all of ten minutes. Seems once I got it retro fitted those wings were more annoying than in the previous 12 years combined. Did not have to even think about much less adjust once I sewed them together.

The "sternum pad"?... Would that be (what I've heard called) the "billow"? If you took that out, then however will any casual observer know that you have a WILSON chest protector on?

Oh, because they would ask what you're wearing now, because it's so much less bulky than a typical off-the-twenty-year-old-shelf Wilson CP... And you would have to answer "It's a Wilson, but with this incredible padding from a company called Team Wendy..."

@mbkcoach you thwarted Wilson's entire marketing plan!

truth be told ........ the Platinum, with a wider and longer option (ala the Gold) with the Gold's gap protection caps instead, and the sternum pad removed and Douglas padding..... ....  would be it !

sounds like a "Frankenprotector" Jeff.   Which coincidentally is what I felt I looked like in a WV Platinum. Minus the square head, bolts in my neck and being 7 feet tall.

you wouldn't look like that if the protector had what I specified above ;)

you joke but I came home from Afghanistan in April of 2011 and had to have a tumor in the right side of my neck surgically removed that was about the size of a bolt. It was deep too. Kept me from umpiring until June. While I was recovering I decided I'm not going back to the 'Stan. The afghans had received enough of my wisdom.  All good now. No ill effects that I know of.

You just go wave an aluminum bat around during thunderstorms now and again, right?

Mr Ump can you send me a pic of your retrofit that you sewed? I am looking to do the same with my WV Gold retrofit I hate when the wings move in front of the shoulder plate and I have to keep moving it back under.

In the post above, I had pics of my solution for the wings on my WV Gold.  I used elastic so it kept them down, but still offered flexibility.  Just another possibility.
