A freakin' wild bunny rabbit hopping around the infield.  He came onto the infield from right field.  He zigged.  He zagged.  He made a run at the plate and the mound then exited via 3B dugout.  At least 45 seconds of bunny hijinks to entertain the crowd.  At least no one tried to catch it or kill it.

Never saw or heard of that one before.

told my girlfriend on the way to dinner last night.  She's Tex-Mex from Houston.  She was hungry.  Her comment:  We had some good rabbit enchiladas once when we caught a rabbit in our yard.

Can't make this stuff up.

Weekend before last I had to call time and come out from behind the plate until after a crash ended.  There was metal crashing for 15 seconds or more and kid turning around towards the sound.  I'd never heard a crash take so long.

I was working a game in the Dominican Republic a few years ago and thought that we should have a game delay. There was a man slowly riding a donkey all the way across the OF (during live ball).  Through the interpreter I asked if we should wait and I was told "No, senor does that every day on his way to the market.  He says it's the best seat in the house."  So we kept playing.

@ $0.565/mile, that'd be a healthy travel reimbursement.
But if no travel allowance, I'd be thinking my assigner was trying to run me off.

I had a game delayed by two odd issues.........

  • rattlesnake in the dugout........that one could have been ugly because it was the 2nd inning that someone decided that brown thing in the corner was a rattlesnake
  • Cows in the outfield.......an open gate allowed some cows to meander across the outfield....thank god for country boys....took about 5 minutes for the outfielders to shoo them back into the ir field and lock the gate.....

My mentor was calling a Legion game and somebody says "Uhh...blue? Might want to call time."

< Video of Alaskan Black Bear >

The next day he was on MLBN.

You know, I usually make a joke when entering a fully enclosed (by fence) field via a door on the backstop. A line I've often used is "Ah, the question is... Is this to keep the animals in, or the animals out?" Gets a good laugh from those within earshot. In this case, jokes do not apply... although I would probably say, "Hey! I have a spare shirt, we can get him on the field for a 3-man crew!"

@Rulekeep, are all your fields completely dirt?? That looks so... so... dreary. #AlaskanLeagueHereICome

@MadMax that WAS a three man crew...and yes, all the fields are like that. I've bitched about it plenty before. That's why going to Anchorage is a big deal because the ACTUAL Alaskan League plays in Mulcahy Stadium which is pretty much a gift from God to Juneau umpires.

Most of our fields also have no drainage so it kinda sucks to be behind the plate or in the outfield.
