Interesting play

What can we learn from this play?  This is a different camera angle...what can we do as umpires to make sure we see everything we need to see?

Regardless of the call at 1B, I'm banging the DP due to an illegal slide.  In 2-man, it's critical for the PU to take the runner into 2B to get that slide call.

Even in 2-man, BU can get this if he stays with the play at second until the ball is released.  He's moving toward first, but his eyes / chest should still be toward second.

 

And, I agree PU can get it if BU doesn't

Tough angle for the plate guy to see that - have to see what the runner does with the hands to see if he is reaching for the bag. BU needs to slide a little to see this too, then open to 1B

In a 3+ man system, this is an easy pick-up.

​Yes, with the additions that in NCAA you can slide straight through the base and then make contact, and you can pop-up on the bag into the fielder.  Bot of those are violations in FED.

​The rule is similar - he has to slide into the base, but can overslide and pop-up. He still can slide away from the play. In the case shown - he slid away from the bag into the fielder - this is illegal by the rules.

​No FPSR was called.  No visit from either team either.

​Yeah, all the posts seem to say what the PU does in 2-man mechanics.  I was pointing out that this is 4-man.  That's all I've got to add, pal.

Many of us work the majority of our games w/ 1 partner.  So that's why they/we are/were commenting on how they'd handle it w/ two man.

I was just pointing out in the video I saw an umpire at 2nd (indicating to me that they are running 3-man or 4-man) meaning that the BU in 'B' or 'C' has the slide at 2nd and not the PU.
