Hey all ...

So, I tried on my 'stuff' last night, in particular my Douglas as the season in Michigan fast approaches! Well, .....everything is great, but I got to thinking.

This rig would be even better if I could cut the lower plate at the ends so it "wraps around" me a little more. Since the plates come off, I figured it would be simple.

Question: Whats the best way to cut the plate ?? Mitre saw? Fine tooth hack? Anyone do this ?

Thanks ...

first wrap the to be cut area in masking tape then I would use a fine tooth blade on a cut-off or chop saw. if you don't have one than even a table saw will work. last option go with a hacksaw. you can then round the edges with some sandpaper quite easily and it will look factory if done right. 1

Thanks for the tips. I've been looking for a way to make this wrap around me better, short of heating up the pad and then bending it.

You could just do what I did - get wider. :D

Well, ...I did it!!! After thinking about it, I realized this was way easier than first imagined!

ABS is strong, but soft, so, I taped off my line and used a box cutter!! Before long I was through enough where it 'bent' .....and with the velcro on the back....I didn't cut all the way through,..no reason.

Here it is ........this will be even nicer than it is now!!:meditation:

Thunderheads

Glad it turned out well. I might have tried a little heat to see I the panel could be molded that way.

Nice job, but I don't get what you did. Did you slice off one rounded end, cut the middle shorter, and then revelcroed back the end, for a total of two cuts?

I'm probably ignorant in this regard, but couldn't these mods weaken the stability and protectability of it?

Andrew, ..in essence all I did make the middle plate form to me better, it just angles back when the CP is put on and tightened.

If CPs are "tested" and they have standards based on those tests, then, yes, I can see where that would be a concern. It's no different than having 3 pieces for the middle, really...2 sides, and a center section..

No, ..I just cut the ends to a point where they bent. Basically, I made a crease in each section .....and bent the sides back...

Did you consult a Doctor prior to using this equipment?

If you cut all the plates into 1 inch by 2 inch peices, you will have the +POS BB 2000 protector (or whatever it was called).

I see what you mean. You simply made a slice down each side, and not all the way through, and just enough so that the plate bends. Thanks!

Correct, actually I went down just before the velcro. It's still all one piece in that section ...and just those sides ... it's 2 3/8" actually that have been cut.. ....
