Brief FYI I asked this more to prove a point to a buddy that uses this in High School games, this wasn't something I really considered for anything above 10U rec ball

I actually worked a high school game with a guy who used this type of protector. He didn't even attempt to bend and the game to two and a half hours. It was much worse than it even sounds.

Thats what this guy does, he's a guy I do 12U tournaments with and he says he uses it in HS games too, he looks like a fool

So I did the assignor for my local rec league a favor and worked plate for 11/12 yr old (low level rec ball, and these were prob the worst two teams in the league). It took about 3 secs to remind myself why I didn't do that anymore. I have a soft spot in my heart for the league - my kids played in it for years, I coached in it for years, it's really for kids just looking for something to do and have fun. But man oh man....even with a nose to toes zone, it was a walkfest. Oh, and the joys of new catchers every inning, one of whom just may have worn the gear before today....but I can't confirm that.

All season, I've been rock solid back there, but after a couple youth travel games lately and now this, I'm as twitchy as a Mexican jumping bean back there (is it still ok to say that? If not, insert acceptable analogy for a really jumpy thing). And even with all the ducking and diving and jumping, I still got hit about 10 times.

Screw that, if I ever find myself so unfortunate to be doing games like this with regularity, you bet your sweet a## I'll be getting one of these. Fashion and peer respect be damned, this is survival mode.

@, if that's what you're facing on a daily basis? Do what ya gotta do...

Get a telescoping plate brush and one of those belt hooks for your mask too!

I vote battery powered DustBuster in the pocket of the raft. Or on his belt.

just now saw this, yes its exactly what i face daily in 9-10 year old ball, it is like 50% passed balls, many hit the umpire, my p200 only does so much to defend me in these games, I would imagine the platinum I just bought would be similar in this issue, i may just need to add this to my gear closet just for the 9-10 games I do, especially what is called the "D division" our lowest 9-10 division. I might look stupid but I will be safe to say the least, did I mention in these games I work alone, its good work though $56 a game
