Never seen an umpire do the hands on head move.  Is there just no way he can correct himself and rule safe?

I think he had the base in the instant that the throw arrived. If you're quick with the pause button, I think you can see that either he had the base or it was too close to call a pulled foot.

 

When I've had this play, coach will ask, how did you miss the pulled foot. The answer is, coach I saw the pulled foot, after the ball arrived.

 

IMO, good examples of bad timing on both calls.

Not unless there is a rule violation.  Poor judgment is not a rule violation.  He called him safe b/c he initially saw the runner as safe (or, poorly, assumed the runner safe).  Either way, not a rules violation plus, if he gets that call overturned, he better hang it up.  He will have no validation to be on the field anymore.  Some would say he doesn't have it anyway but that is a different story.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the first play.  At least one can understand where CB may call him safe.  As soon as I saw the second play, however, I immediately thought "bad timing".  CB called safe so fast, it's almost that he had his mind made up before the pitch.
